Financial Aid for Low-Income Students

There are grants, loans, work-study programs and scholarships that I can apply to in order to receive financial aid to lower college costs. But, is there any other way to receive financial help besides those options listed above? I would like to lower college costs as much as possible in order to not put a burden on my family. What are some ways to lower college costs?

CC is definitely one of them, but many refuse to consider this simply because it is a community college.

Those are the types of financial aid available. I’m not sure what else you think is available. If you haven’t applied for and received these now for fall 2020, it’s probably too late.

The best aid comes from the colleges to which you are admitted. Are you Calgrant eligible and did you receive that? Can you commute to a CSU located near your home?

According to other threads, you live in CA and applied to several CA campuses.

You should have received your financial aid packages from the schools by now.

One way to lower costs is to commute to the nearest campus (if that is close enough) from home. Yes, there are commuting costs, but they are usually far less than room and board costs at most colleges.

It sounds like you need more financial aid than you received. Is that correct? How much more do you need?

College choice is a big one. We’re a zero EFC family and I was really surprised at the wide range of final costs even from schools within our own state. In the end we had to give up on the one that we really loved due to not being able to justify the additional cost, but it essentially “saved” DS 24K.

Choose a less expensive school.
