I'm strongly considering applying to transfer out of my state university to an LAC. The one thing that's making me worry, however, is the question of getting financial aid. Currently, I receive a significant chunk of money from FAFSA and my school, since my EFC is pretty low.

I'm looking at Bard, Bennington, Sarah Lawrence, Hamilton, Hampshire, Kenyon, Brandeis, and Ithaca. Realistically, what are my chances of actually affording it? Any information and advice from transfer students (especially those who transferred within the last year) is welcome. Thanks!

You need to check the websites of each place on your list, and look for information about aid policies. If you cannot find it, email the admissions and financial aid offices and ask. Some places are generous, and award the same amount of need-based aid to transfers as to continuing students. Some aren’t so generous. It truly is OK to ask them about their policies.

When determining need based FA, information from other students is not particularly helpful as their financial circumstances may be very different from your own (both EFC and ability to afford the EFC).
