I am currently in a CC for this Summer session and wish to go to a CSU/UC for the Fall. I’m already accepted to one of the CSUs that I am planning to go to, however I am worried about FAFSA. Will there be a problem considering I applied to both schools for FAFSA and am already going to the CC while I wait to get to the CSU/UC?
@kelsmom can you chime in here
You can only get financial aid from a school where you have matriculated in a degree program. You can only matriculate at ONE college.
Which one did you choose?
I’m guessing I chose the CC because I registered classes for it, and the tuition was waived. I still have the option of accepting FAFSA/Loans from the CSUs/Ucs though, so am I allowed to accept the awards without any problems? I’ve only been going to the CC for a week, and probably will only be going for a month to just finish the class I’m taking.
Are you pursuing a degree at the CC? If not, I don’t believe you are entitled to financial aid there.
@BelknapPoint or @kelsmom your thoughts?
In order to receive financial aid at a school, you must be a regular, degree-seeking student enrolled in a degree program. You cannot receive aid from two schools at one time. If you are currently enrolled as a degree-seeking student at the CC, you can receive aid from that school - then, if you enroll in fall at another school as a degree-seeking student (tranferring enrollment), you can receive aid there. If the CC awards your summer aid as part of the 2015-2016 award year, it won’t affect your fall aid at the other school. However, if they award aid in summer as part of 2016-2017, it will affect your ability to receive aid in fall/spring - from the standpoint that your “year” will begin a semester early, and you may run out of Pell (if the new year-round Pell doesn’t pass) and/or loan eligibility. Talk to your school’s financial aid office!
Is that how it works? I was worried when my tuition for the CC was waived and I had decided to go to another school. I don’t believe I’m a degree-seeking student as I’m only taking general ed classes for the credit and just to get an idea of how college will be like.
Ha, as I said before I don’t believe I’m a degree-seeking student but I’m not really an expert on that and I may be wrong. Anyways, it’s 2016-2017 ): oh no I’ve made a mistake… Would you recommend I stay at the CC and just transfer to the school so there’s not financial problems at all or take a loan and go to the CSU/UC that I accepted?
I recommend that you talk to a financial aid advisor at the school you want to attend to find out what your options are.
