I’m currently enrolled at a community college for an associate’s degree. I’m also looking to get a certificate in entrepreneurship, and a different local community college is offering most of the classes I need for it over the summer.
I’d like to take them to get ahead, but I can only make it work with a pell grant. Is it possible? If I apply to the other school for summer aid, does it mean I don’t qualify for aid for the regular school year at my current school? I’m looking to take 12 credits over the summer and 18 between fall and spring.
You must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program to get financial aid at a school. If you are not taking the courses at the school where you are enrolled in a degree-seeking program, you should not be receiving aid from that school.
It is a degree program, just a different degree at a different school.
My question is, if I complete that program over the summer and receive aid through that school, can I still get federal grants at my original school for the degree I’m working on in the fall and spring?
Will you be a degree-seeking student at the school in the summer, or will you be a guest student? It sounds like you will be a guest student. In that case, you are not eligible for federal aid at that school.
I get that you don’t believe me that I’ll be a degree seeking student at both schools, but could you just humor me? I’d really appreciate it.
If I receive aid through one school over the summer, can I still get federal grants at my original school, assuming I’m a degree seeking student at both schools?
You need to ask the summer school. But you will not get more than the total amount of your Pell grant for the year whether it is all from one school or split.
