Unfortunately, it was pretty much nil for us. At least it reduces the number of schools my daughter needs to consider by one. Wish we were rich, for the Honors Program looked great and would have gotten BC serious consideration.

Yeah same here. They gave us a good amount but nowhere near enough. They expected us to pay over half of what we make in a year (18,000 when we made 29,000). Not even going to bother showing this to my parents.

Come on you guys could at least have some amount, we internationals have nothing.

@pinewu With all due respects, that argument won’t fly. International student that come here are able to afford the education USA. Most middle income Americans cannot afford $ 60,000 each of the 4 years. To top that, many of the State Schools take International student to offset budget deficits thus turning down in-state students.

Sorry to be so forthright.

There are only a handful of US colleges that are both need-blind and that meet full financial need for internationals. (

Hint: all are found at the top of USNews’ rankings. Thus, internationals who need $$c need to look at the Ivies and top LACs, or look way down the rankings-chain for merit money.

Happy: before you toss away the info, take a strong look at yoru financial aid application to make sure that everything was entered properly. While BC is not considered generous like the uber-rich Ivies, BC does meet full need (as they define it). Income is the primary criteria, and a less than a six-figure income should have generated some decent aid, but assets also count at 5.6%. (Many folks have a lot of home equity, which limits need-base aid.)

It’s Ok I understand that point when I applied BC, the cost is a little more than my budget but I’m trying to manage it. Sorry I commented like that, just a little disappointed that the cost would be a huge barrier to such a great college like BC, and I may just decide not to go for the cost.
BTW: I love forthright criticism.
@blue
I applied to Brown and Yale with FA and am waiting for the release of admission.
I don’t know if I stand a chance. I got rejected by Lehigh and Colgate and later received offer from BC.

Help! I don’t have a package yet because I haven’t sent in tax forms! Am I screwed out of most of the money I was going to receive?

We can’t answer that question. Send the forms in and let them know they are coming. Nothing to lose.

SDTash23, I’m in the same boat. I requested my tax trans last week so hopefully it’s coming soon and then I can send it to BC. I’m hoping that they’ll still give me enough finaid and they’ll get back to me before May. I might call them/email them soon to let them know they’re coming soon.

I am unable to see my award yet - it is just giving me the message “You currently do not have an award notification to view” In the financial aid portal, it lists my IRS 1040 Tax Return as required, even though I sent in the non tax filer confirmation, which it marks as received. Is anyone else having this same problem?

For those of who are able to view your award, did you receive an email telling you to check the portal?

Mine also says “You currently do not have an award notification to view” although the financial aid portal says nothing is missing. I contacted Financial Aid office this morning and they told me it will be available by Friday at the latest. They said it may be available tomorrow so I need to check everyday. I asked about the access key I got in admission packet and they said once financial aid notification is available I will be asked to type in the code before I can see my aid.

Yeah I’m going to look back over everything again just to make sure. I was given a full ride to another less prestigious school, but not having any debt while still living in Boston is pretty tempting. Absolutely love BC though!

Ahh mine also says no award at the moment. Apparently I forgot some FA things that should be sent. I don’t think I’m going to get enough aid though… and I really don’t want to spend all my savings… Is BC generous? Should I even try? All Brandeis gave me was a loan so I’m not so optimistic… I may end up at Udel honors (only 10,000 for 4 years) barring some great acceptance or good FA from elsewhere. What should I do?

In reading “Financial Aid at BC” which came with acceptance packet, it states “All financial aid awarded by Student Services at BC is need-based.” Does this mean that BC doe NOT award any Merit Aid at all? Or does Merit Aid come from some place other than Student Services?

boston college only gives out like 30 full ride merit scholarships a year, as far as I can recall. The rest of the aid is all need based.

I got the financial aid notification and it is pretty disappointing. Thinking about appeal…
