The financial aid stuff is confusing/stressing me out. Due to my failure to not pay attention to the details and deadlines, I just turned my CSS profile in today. I have also been locked out of my Duke account because I forgot my password. I just got it reset today and noticed that I have to send in my parent's tax returns and W-2 papers.

Problems/Questions:

My parents haven't filed their taxes yet. What do I do?

Since Duke only needs a copy of the tax return and W-2 papers, can I ignore the rest of the paperwork minus the cover sheet on IDOC or do I have to complete everything in the checklist?

Am I screwed? Lay it on me and crticize all you want.

Thank you in advance for your help. All of this is my owning doing and I accept full responsibility for it.

Send in last year’s but guess this year’s to fill in the CSS and FAFSA. You have to do everything on the checklist. You’ll be fine; they won’t not give you financial aid because you’re a little late getting the paperwork in. They’ve got everyone else’s to go through and that should take weeks anyway. On the other hand, you should get it done as soon as possible.

AGREED…you are OK. Just get the info in by Friday. Next year, remember to file estimates

Thanks so much for the help! I finished my FAFSA awhile ago and didn’t realize that I needed the CSS profile so I barely got that in on time yesterday. Now I just need to get my IDOC stuff sent in.

Thank you Ouruboros313 for your help on what I need to do and send in!!!

actually one the duke financial aid site they specifically say not to send in 2009 returns just wait until you have your 2010 ones completed. march 1st is the priority deadline. the people who sent it in by then will receive their financial aid packages with their admissions letter while people who send it in late will receive it at a later date depending on how late it is. on the website they basically say to turn in it as soon as possible but if you dont have it by March 1st dont sweat it too much you’ll still receive financial aid. theyll send you an estimate rather than a set in stone offer when you get your admissions letter.

@wabamaccepted so if I have my CSS profile and FAFSA sent in I should be good until my parents finish their 2010 taxes?

yes generally if your okay with not having an official package the same day as your acceptance letter. just dont wait too long. we put a rush on our returns and mailed it yesterday through express mail.
