I just received a Brown letter Dated March 14, requesting:

"Thank you for your interest in Brown…,

we are in need of the following information in order to determine your eligibility for financial aid. All materials should be submitted as soon as possible to be considered for financial assistance. You may check your financial aid application status on line at www.financialaid.brown.edu…"

Is it an indication that they are in a serious consideraton for my applicaton?

I received that as well. My Dad claims it's nothing though, since Brown is need-blind, and thus the admissions and FinAid processes are separate.

It is true that for Brown admission office the acceptance decisions are need-blind. But for Brown Financial Aid Office, they don't need to review every applicant in the huge pool and careful financial aid review for each applicant is time consuming. Is it more logical and efficient to only review those accepted by admission office?

Yes exactly the admisssion office performs the admissions "Need-Blind" then possibly forwards the information over to the office of financial aid to evaulate each admitee's financial aid. This is more cost-efficient and time saving.

Still, this could all be wishful thinking!!!!

dartmouth is "need blind" ...and right before i got a likely letter, i received an e-mail about missing financial forms... the same thing for wellesley... just a a thought ;)

But with like 16,000 applicants, would it make sense, either economically or time-wise, to make financial aid packages for all of them, when 85% will ultimately be rejected? Haha, but then again, this is all wishful thinking.

I got something like that too. My dad took the same stance as you guys and said "Maybe this means that they are considering you!" but I wasn't so sure. I am in the same boat as shainloves, it seems like it would be their job to notify anyone with missing forms. However, I like the way you guys are thinking! I hope that you are right!!!!!!

Just my 2-cent: they look into every finaid app to see if you have all the required documents ready. HOWEVER they don't calculate how much you'll need just then. They're two different processes, see?

I have been very impressed by Brown writing to let us know when they are missing docs rather than outright rejecting our child & saying it's because documents were missing. I hope it's a good sign, but won't read too much into it. If they wanted to reject our child, they have had more than enough opportunities to do so, tho he really wants to attend their school.

Because it really doesn't cost all that much money (or time).

I used to work at a FinAid office for a private college in the Northeast, and we sent form letters to EVERY applicant who had stuff missing from their files. Students on work-study make cheap laborers! ;)

I don't think it means anything except that you are missing some financial aid forms. It could mean that you were accepted and that they needed more forms to develop your FinAid packege, but I wouldn't read into it that much. I'm pretty sure it's something they do for everyone.

Here's a hypothetical situation: They ask for specific information, i.e. disparities in numbers between FAFSA and Profile? You have all the required documents in and they ask for specific info? Would that be neutral?

I just got this letter asking for Business Supplement forms too. My dad tells me it's looking good, but I feel ambivalent....maybe everyone got one or just the accepted?! I'm thinking its already 1.5 week away from our decision....maybe it's telling me they need my financial info for the decision package...? i don't really know
