Financial Aid Package

well i finished my FAFSA on 1/3/11 also and had an EFC=0000. I even updated after my mother filed her taxes and the EFC was still 0. Im not sure what happened but after all of that FSU still offered me close to nothing.

@niqueb1 I was in a very similar situation just like you I applied to the fafsa early on 1/5/11 to be exact and i updated it later on… my efc wasn’t technically zero but fsu offered me way more then I expected and I think you should call the financial aid office and speak to them…can I ask you was your fafsa processed??? usually you get a e-mail saying your fafsa has been processed and that basically means your school has received your information and maybe fsu hasn’t updated your file and it might be on hold so try calling them

@josephalexandra Thanks, I’ll call them tomorrow. But to answer your question, my FAFSA was processed for both summer and fall. If low income wasnt enough I was sure with some of my credentials i would have atleast been offered academic scholarships as well.

Summer financial aid come out yesterday- today the financial aid toolkit is down for “processing”. FSU did this same thing when they assigned fall/spring financial aid and actually told me beforehand that they do this to keep from getting an influx of phone calls all at one time. For anyone reading this now or in the future let me warn you of something…

My daughter will be starting at FSU in June 2011 as a freshman in the CARE program. Her fall and spring financial aid packages were great! Her summer one was so ridiculously small that I felt like her college career was going up in flames ($300 PELL grant, $2500 in loans). I panicked and called financial aid and the CARE office this morning. This is what they told me.

If you are a CARE student and you qualify for even $1 of PELL grant assistance then FSU gives you a special grant that covers 100% of your summer costs (tuition, books, meal plan, incidentals, etc.). Mr Nyahuma, the CARE financial aid officer, has not been able to see before now who would be PELL eligible and therefore your summer financial aid package is not complete if you are in the CARE program and PELL eligible. He went so far as to say if you are offered loans and you even accept them, FSU will on your behalf decline the loans and issue you a special grant. Again this is only the case for CARE students who are PELL eligible.

I am only sharing this for informational purposes so that no one else is up nights worrying about how they are going to pay for their CARE Summer Bridge Program.

Good luck! :)

really wish I could log in to see the damage

O.o
Am I the only one who hasn’t received their sumner financial aid

The financial aid office is probably in limboland right now until the federal budget bill is done and the FSU financial aid office gets instructions and guidelines from the U.S. Dept. of Education for its federal aid programs and any changes.

I applied to the CARE program, but did not get accepted right away. I actually got accepted like 2 weeks ago. Does anyone know if I’ll qualify for any other grants? My pell grant per semester was $950, and the summer financial aid is not up yet.

Summer Financial Aid WAS up…yesterday morning I literally accepted my loans and saved everything. As of last night though, everything had disappeared lol

did you guys have nothing appearing for summer aid as well now?

As previously stated by NoleSole summer financial aid did come out on the 11th - I even have screenshots of what my daughter was offered - but FSU did take it down and now hers is gone as well.

Squirt - I was told yesterday (4.12.11) by Mr. Nyahuma (CARE specific financial aid officer) that if you are accepted as a CARE student and even have $1 of PELL grant funding available from your 2010-2011 FAFSA then FSU will cover ALL of your summer costs. Even if you are offered loans and almost no PELL money (as my daughter was) they will reject the loans on your behalf and issue you a special grant for the summer session that covers you at 100% (tuition, books, meal plan, incidentals, insurance if applicable, etc.).

If you are asking about fall financial aid as a CARE student all I can tell you is FSU was VERY generous with my daughter in regard to grants and scholarships and there are specific funds marked (like the First Generation grant) that are only available to CARE students and not to other students that might be equally disadvantaged but did not come into FSU through the CARE program. I got this information from the FSU financial aid office (not the CARE office) and while FSU does their First Generation grant this way it is by choice only. They are not required to do this - it is just FSU policy at this point in time. I cannot speak to whether they have always done it this way or will continue to do it this way.

If there is anything else you have questions about specific to CARE I might be able to help you out. My daughter was accepted into CARE last September and I think I have spoken to everyone there by now. LOL

Have a good day!
