Does anyone know when these typically are sent to admitted students?

Thank-you.

Does anyone know when these typically are sent to admitted students?

Thank-you.

by the end of the month.

is that the first time we will receive any mail from Caltech after acceptance?

My son was accepted EA and we got a tentative FA estimate within two days after we submitted the forms in early January, but haven’t received anything official yet.

We have received a TON of mail in the interim though so I’d be surprised if you didn’t get something before then. Invites to visit, handwritten notes from the admissions office talking about his essays and welcoming him, info on sports and PFW, etc. I’d bet you’ll get something soon.

We got one little postcard today aimed at parents. My son got an email from the baseball coach. I’m hoping they’ll have an admitted students get together in our city.
Ok, so we’ll wait til the end of the month.

Thanks for the info.

Hm, if they tried to do the get-togther in our city it would be pretty lonely since I’ll bet my son is the only one to apply there (let alone get in) in probably a decade! Even for MIT last year they tried to do a state get-together but only had about 6 people and couldn’t get a time enough people could go.

sbjdorlo - to answer your question from the other thread, my son just received an email estimate of his FA a few days after submitting everything back in January since he was EA. Nothing ever came in writing re FA, either then or so far now.

sbjdorlo,

My son also got an e-mail from the baseball coach. He really want to play baseball in college, not sure how much time he can spare at Caltech playing baseball. Have not made the decision yet!

trojan,

What other schools is your son looking at? Would those give him more time to play ball? Will he be going to the preview weekend and talking with the coach?

re. f. aid,

I think all of us got that email about incomplete info?

On that handy dandy website I found (admitted students) it said that FA packages would be sent out 3/28 :-)

Thank-you, crazymomster!

I hadn’t linked my son’s taxes to the FAFSA yet, so it was good that I called them and found that out.

@trojan2012
My son plays baseball at Caltech and has been able to manage the time. I would encourage your to play a sport at Caltech. My son finds it a nice break from his studies.

Anyone got their FA packages yet? Are they via email or post?

fairly certain they will be snail mailed.

Ah, just re-checked the admitted students page that initially said 3/28 for mailed FA packages… now there is no mention at all. I have sent an email to check.

OK, decided to call… they said packages will begin to go out tomorrow and will continue to go out as the files are completed.

just got this a few minutes ago (in the spam folder though)

Your application for financial aid has been reviewed and the results will be sent to you via email as a password-protected PDF attachment.

I received the first email with the password for opening the finaid document at 11:15 am and the second email with the actual award at 12:01 pm.

I received them at 10:07 and 11:01 (Central). Pretty close to the original estimate we were given but without pulling it up I’m not sure if it was exact. Hope everyone’s FA was good!

F. aid was very good!! Now we’ll see how my son will like the actual school.

MIT’s was somewhat better for us. Not enough to be a deal-breaker, but enough to consider at least. sbj - are you heading to Caltech with your son? Would be fun to say hi!

That’s so interesting, marciemi! I wonder if it has to do with income bracket or what. Caltech had no loans and no work study in it. I was seriously shocked.
I would love to say hi but my son will go up with friends and then I’ll meet him over at Harvey Mudd on Sunday. (He’ll either get a ride from Caltech to Mudd or take the bus to get there by 10:30 on Saturday morning)

Darn! It would be fun to meet you, marciemi!
