Hi all! I have a question in regards to receiving financial aid per quarter. I am currently trying to figure out how much i will get per quarter in financial aid. I need to know exactly how much i will be getting per quarter, as it defines whether i not i need to find a job ASAP or if i dont need to look right away. This is going to involve math lol, so here is goes.
My shopping sheet informs me it will cost $20,081.00 per year for me to enroll in college. They broke is down into costs;
Tuition and fees $12,372.00
Housing and meals $3,455.00
Books and supplies $1,050.00
Transportation $1,410.00
Other education costs $1,794.00
not including the tuition and fees, total per year to help me out is $7,709.00. I divided that by 6, instead of 12, since it would be every quarter (which over here is about 2 months). That came out to about $1200. Is this correct? Is that about what I will be getting per quarter in financial aid? Or did i do my math wrong? Thanks in advance; my local financial aid office is not very helpful lol.
Are you sure your room and board are under $4000 per year! That does not sound right.
Is your college on the semester or quarter system?
What is the full cost of attendance for the full year???
I can’t think of any college that costs only $20,000 for
The full year.
Your calculations seem off to me but it’s hard to say without knowing your full cost of attendance.
How much aid will you receive? No way to answer that question. Are you a U.S. citizen?
Are you entering college this fall? Or when?
@hrrenee You have confused me. You are going to a college that divides the year into 4 two month quarters? What is your total yearly Cost of Attendance? Or what is the college so we can figure this out for you? Did you recieve a financial aid package? What was in that package?
@thumper1 Some midwestern colleges are that low.
Yes, my room and board are under $4k, since i am living at home with my parents. And its a community college, located in a somewhat poverty stricken area. Its meant for low income students and international students. My college i believe is on the quarter system, but i do not know for sure, my financial aid office doesn’t answer any of my emails. And my full cost of attendance is written in my post; $20,081.00.
And i already know i am receiving financial aid, i just do not know the exact amount per quarter or semester. I suspect i will not know for sure until the start of my fall quarter, but i cannot wait to find out til then, since if it is lower than the $1200 per quarter or semester, i will need to find a job. The college is “Everett Community College” located in washington state.
@hrrenee Did you fill out a FASFA? Are you receiving a Pell Grant? Are you going to take out a Federal loan of $5500? How did you find out that you were receiving financial aid?
Im sorry for the confusing info and questions; my financial aid office has offered me no answers to my questions, and half the time i do not get a response.
I did fill out fasfa. I am not receiving the pell grant, but due to a miscommunication and misinformation on my fasfa application, i had to resubmit a verification form, so i might qualify. I am not sure about loans. I was given a “Shopping Sheet” from fasfa and was told that i am going to be receiving aid.
Are you paying your parents 4k for room and board?
Im not sure. Ill be paying my mother $400 in rent, since she is buying a house soon and cannot afford to support me totally.
Im already logged in. What info are you looking for?
What is your package? Do you have loans? Grants? Merit awards?
None. No grants, merits, loans or scholarships.
@thumper1 every public university in NC costs approximately $20K/yr for in-state students, including room and board. A couple are a few hundred above $20K, and most are less than $20K. I’m sure that is the case for several other states as well.
Is there anyway i can post a picture of my shopping sheet to show you guys?
What is under the grants and scholarship section?
@hrrenee Can you put the shopping sheet as your avatar?
Based on https://www.everettcc.edu/files/administration/instruction/academic-calendar/academic-calendar-2018-19.pdf , Everett Community College is on a typical quarter system, where the calendar year is divided into four quarters (with ~10 weeks of instruction each, though Everett shortens the summer quarter), but the normal academic year includes three quarters (excluding the summer quarter).
So if you have a cost of attendance and financial aid sheet that gives numbers for the academic year, divide by three to get the numbers for one academic quarter.
Yes, i will do so right now.
