<p>Does Northwestern act like ivy leagues and grant federal aid only to those who are extremely stricken w/poverty and such? I'm just wondering, i don't mean it as a mean thing, but if you do decide to go to NW if admitted, it's somewhat of a happy problem. thanks!</p>
<p>Yes, although I wouldn't say you'd have to be poverty-stricken to get need-based aid at NU, it's very difficult to get from what I've seen -- at least any substantial amount. They do offer a variety of loan types, though, which can help.</p>
<p>It really depends on your EFC. We were given a genenerous grant/aid package this year that covered full tuition w/no loans. Although, I will admit we have two in college at the same time. I'm sure this had some bearing on the FA package. I understand the average package is around $23,000 per year.</p>
