Financial Aid Question (Feb. 15)

Hi everyone,

The deadline for fin.aid is approaching and I have a few questions regarding papers that need to be sent to Cornell.

It says: include all schedules and W2s
What are these schedules? Where can my parents get them?

Since I am an eligible non-citizen, I have to send additional documentation.

[quote]
Eligible non-citizens must provide documentation of permanent residency or citizenship status.
Acceptable forms of documentation include:
Resident Alien Card (I-551)
Arrival/Departure Record (I-94) with the temporary I-551 stamp that has not expired

Does it mean I have to send both the alien card (green card) and the arrival/departure record with the stamp or one of those would be fine?

And one more question, do I send the documents in a regular envelope, am I supposed to write anything on it?

Thanks in advance.

Can anyone help me?

last yr, i just sent everything my parents had for tax return to cornell. i think some of the papers said “schedule” on top. i think u can send ur parents’ 2009 papers in for now, but after they file their tax, u’ll have to resend the 2010 tax return.

a copy of ur green card will work. front and back, just to be safe.

use a big envelope and put things in a nice order. u dont rly need to write anything on the envelope.

Schedules are the additional forms that are added to the regular 1040’s tax forms that everyone fills out. It’s those papers that include additional information about stuff that the 1040’s wouldn’t have room to put it on those two sheets of paper.

They “basically” want every form your parents used to file their taxes (copies).

Just giving them a copy of your Resident Alien Card (I-551) is good enough to show that you are legally in America.

You might be sending them a lot of papers, so a regular envelope might be too small. Probably should use a big envelope. A “manila envelope” are nice too, you wouldn’t need to fold anything.

You don’t need to write anything more than what the instructions on your Financial Aid asks for.

Thank you, aurora00 and playhacker! I appreciate it.
