Financial Aid question UCI

I was accepted to UCI on Friday and this morning I got an email about changes on my financial aid. Initially I had qualified for nothing more than a loan. However when I checked this morning it says they awarded me $18.700+. It appears to be a scholarship. It is listed as UCI grant, but it also mentions the blue and gold plan.
Is that what they call a regents scholarship? This looks too good to be true. I am kind of scared to believe it is real....

If your family makes less than 80k a year or you’re independent and fit their qualifications, then your tuition is supposed to be covered by the federal loan/pell grant/calgrants. :)

Grats :)

Thank you!
Why didn’t I qualify from the very beginning though? When I click on UCI grant it says that the money comes from both UC regents and the state. In short I just wanted to know, was I awarded this because of school achievement or because of financial need? Can this be a mistake, because at first I got only a loan and now 18k + loan.
Thank you for your help.
I know this has probably been asked before but I am so nervous/excited I wanted to ask you guys…
