i received an e-mail that told me that my aid award was posted, so i logged in and checked. under the "gift aid" category, i have federal pell grant and uc irvine grant--is my cal grant included in the "uc irvine grant"? i know for a fact thati i'm supposed to get a cal grant.

for my ucsd awards, i have pell grant, possible cal grant a, and ucsd grant.

did uci just combine them for me and put it under "uc irvine grant"? i tried giving them a call, but unfortunately, their mailbox was full. lol.

Not sure, I got blue and gold worth about 11 thousand, and pell grants worth about 6 thousand. I have to pay for housing though. No word on Cal grant for me, I’ve never got it before and don’t know where to even start looking aside from the cal grant website which tells me nothing.

I doubt it includes Cal grant. I actually just checked cal grant website, it says the application is still processing and will be available 4-6 weeks after march 2nd. It is about 5 weeks now, so if it’s not available for me in the next week I’m gonna call. For some reason it says my school of attendance is Berkeley, I didn’t put that, but I hope they include all schools I applied for. And I hope I even get a cal grant. I make a lot of money compared to most of you so I wouldn’t be surprised if I don’t get one.

i gave them a call and the lady told me that the uci grant does NOT include cal grant–BUT we do receive our cal grant, the uci grant will lower SIGNIFICANTLY. she didn’t tell me how much less, but i’m assuming it it will just subtract what cal grant is giving us–based on what other UC school grants are giving me. lame.

lintij–how do you know you got the blue and gold? it says i’m eligible, but i don’t see it listed in my awards. do i get only find out if i get it if i send my SIR?

I don’t think it mentioned anything about cal grant - so if we are eligible we can expect that as well, right? They are giving me $20,000 gift aid, but with the cal grant that comes out to about 29,000, so full tuition, is this right?

@solidblu - I don’t think that’s right. If that were the case I’d be expecting over $30K. As mbe16 stated above, once your cal grant award is confirmed the university reduces their UC grant.

Apparently the exact amounts of this years cal grants are still up in the air. I got this off of my UCSB unofficial award letter:

“A Cal Grant A was used for this unofficial award letter, but if you are awarded a Cal Grant B by CSAC, we will adjust for that change later this summer. In most cases, this change will result in a corresponding increase to your UC Grant eligibility. We will not display actual Cal Grant awards until the State passes the 2010-2011 budget in mid-summer and we are authorized to pay the awards.”

Anyone who got over 10g’s in aid probably got blue and gold. It does not have to say it for you to know that it’s blue and gold. Think about it, Blue and gold only goes to tuition, therefore if you got at least 10 thousand in aid, don’t you think that every penny came from blue and gold? Anything over that was probably from pell and other aid.

^ There was a big discussion about this before and I’m pretty sure you have to choose either the B&G or your standard aid package. I qualify for the maximum cal grant in my standard aid package, which was estimated at $10,302, and it covered my full tuition costs, so I don’t even need B&G. But I did also get the Pell, UC grant, FSEOG, and the National Smart grant.
