I'm an instate student that's been admitted as a Freshman for next year. I recently received an email from the UW financial aid office notifying me that my f.a package is available on my MyUW account. I checked it, and as I expected, my tuition was fully covered (Undergraduate University Grant), as my family is not very well off. However, my grant only covers tuition, plus a little bit extra. The problem is, I was planning on living on campus, in a dorm. Obviously that would mean I would have to pay more (I'm guessing around 6-7k more, not completely sure though). Anyways, is there any way that I could get/request more money from the F.A office to cover that cost? My family is still struggling to pay off my older brother's debt, and it would be nice if I could have that covered for me. Otherwise, I guess I'd just have to commute. Any thoughts?

What is your EFC and what is your exact financial aid package?

What did you chose when you were filling out your FAFSA? “Living on campus”?
Where do you live? There might be a waiting list… (<a href=“Housing & Food Services - UW HFS”>Housing & Food Services - UW HFS) and if you live too close you won’t get in.

“Husky promise” covers only tuition and only after Pell and State need have been applied (I know, it sucks). I’m pretty sure they will just tell you to look for scholarships and grants, which can be applied towards living expenses. Or they will just offer you to borrow some money.
