I got a really good package from University of Puget Sound, but if the UW offers me more I'd go there. I've heard they're really stingy with money though, can anyone who's found out their financial aid package tell me if that's true? You don't have to give exact amounts, that's not my business. : )

Well, I've heard that they pretty much won't give money unless you have extreme financial need. The only way to get merit money is if you're in the honors college, and even then, I've heard that it's pretty difficult.

I wouldn't hold my breath. Especially if you're out of state (which I know you're not, but for the purpose of informing everyone else, I included this).

In one word: terrible

How would you classify extreme financial need? would you say an EFC in the 1,000's qualify for extreme need?

I'm not sure... my parents did my financial aid form, so I have no idea what EFC ranges are.

:/

oh my. I had lowwww expectation. With an EFC (in state) of 6400, I got 7250 in grants and 6700 in loans. I am truly surprised.

beavk: wow, thats pretty good for your EFC.

How long after your acceptance did you get your financial aid package?

Well, I submitted my FAFSA on the day of the deadline. But I had to send in some additional documents, which I didn't do until this week. I got into UW actually exactly a month ago.

how does it work if you have extreme financial need (like 0 EFC, single parent makes less than 20,000 year) but you are out of state? are you just out of luck to attend UW?

Absolutely terrible for out of staters. The only aid they gave me was 11,000 in loans, and didn't even meet all my need with those loans. They also don't give merit aid for out of staters.

greatttt......my college prospects are not looking so good...

i got all loans minus my efc which was about $12000
soo basically

it’s terrible :/

I qualify for the wa state need grant and I got the husky promise scholarship but we still have to contribute a little bit more than 8000 (efc + loan). Whereas, wsu gave me a ton of scholarship and with about 4000 in loan. so uw definitely do not offer good fa.
