Financial Aid/Scholarships for transfer student

Hi, so I was thinking that I might transfer to a really good school after my first year in college (assuming I get really good grades)
The reason for this is that I want to be sure of what I really want to do/major in..before I pay a lot of money,

So say I want to transfer to some top 40 school and it costs like 30k a year...will I still receive a good amount of merit scholarships, grants, etc (my EFC isnt high at all)??

I am just not sure on how aid for transfer students is different...and I am not looking to take out loans so when I say financial aid I mean grants, scholarship, work study, etc.

Thank you,

bump
Sorry, I just need some advice or any interesting information that someone knows off the top…
thanks

You’ll need to check out each school individually. They all treat transfers differently.

There are very few merit scholarships for transfers and once you get past the very top schools with huge endowments, need based aid is spotty too. You may be best off at your state flagship if you live in a state where there is a strong one and that offers state grants. Otherwise, look for schools that meet full need for all students if you qualify for aid.
