Financial Aid Shock!

So I’m a CA resident and I receive my aid package today. IT says that tuition is $11,000 and that room and board is $22,000. After other costs, it totals over $40,000! I know this is because they messed up on my state residency, but would that matter for room and board? The website says around 11,000 for room and board. Is that for a semester, or for a year?

thats for a year........and your tuition is 11k? dang man, mine was only 9k...........

I'm in state, it should be like 6k

hmmm, no, 9k is right........

it went up 3k from last year? stupid schwarzenegger

no.........last year it was 9k, i expect it to be the same this year as well

lol, i go to berkeley =)

"it went up 3k from last year? stupid schwarzenegger"

haha too bad.

Wait wait...weren't the UCs all around the same cost?

I'm giongt to ucsd and my total coa per year is 21k. How could your total be 40k????

My friend was saying that too (about his berkeley admission). That's strange. I think someone messed up with residency.

nah, its slightly different for all UCs

I know its slightly different. But not a 20 grand difference!

dmcwhiz123:

ok then how much is 1. one year of tuition. 2. one year of room and board and 3. total with other costs for one year?

I thought it was 6K. That's according to one of the UC pamphlets.

us news says this:

2004-2005 Expenses
Tuition and fees: $5,754 in-state, $22,710 out-of-state
Room/board: $11,629

Is this not true?

the berkeley website says this:

Registration & Fees: $ 6,528
Housing, food & utilities: $ 11,630

Total (with other expenses): $ 21,336

Are you positive it was 9k? are you CA resident?

eh i included the (other expenses) along with registration and fees

that comes out to almost 10k ish

Oh. So total is NOT 40 grand right?

no, its not.... take a deep breath :)

takes a deep breath

Whew. Glad to have that cleared up.
