Financial Aid UCLA

Hi All!
Congrats on getting into the UC school's y'all got into.

I really would love to attend UCLA. It has a great program for my major.... one of the best in the country. I got accepted as a Junior Transfer for the Fall 2014 quarter, but I did not receive any financial aid... Since I am out of state, the cost is extremely high (comparable to a private school) and my parents really cannot pay for the full cost...(they still have a mortgage and my brother is going to go to college in a few years)....

Would it be worth it to give UCLA a call and ask about financial aid? Thoughts on that? Advice?

Thank y'all for taking the time to read & respond :) it's greatly appreciated.

I’m not really hopeful that you’ll get more financial aid, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to ask and see what your options are.

On a side note: I hate that this country can afford to completely subsidize higher education tuition for all students but doesn’t do so.

It’s not in the best interest of the students or of the nation for this state of affairs to continue.

Thank you…I’ll try to call them.

I know @Cayton‌…it’s sad that these institutions of educations have turned into Businesses… :frowning:
I guess I shouldn’t complain about life being unfair since I’m “grown up”, but I really believe everyone should be able to attend a good school without being indebted for years.

I wonder what happens if they offer financial aid to someone who declines their admission offer? I’m sure they keep it, but I wish they would redistribute to me :slight_smile: hahaha

@nydallas‌

There’s nothing wrong with complaining about unfairness. Fairness is a fundamental moral principle that all people should fight for. The likes of Martin Luther King, Cesar Chavez, Theodore Roosevelt, and Franklin Roosevelt, and other paragons of moral virtue have fought in the name of fairness and look what they’ve accomplished. :D

@Cayton‌ thank you! you’re pretty good at making everyone on these threads feel better :slight_smile:

@nydallas‌

Thanks. It’s what I do!

@nydallas Definitely call! And definitely send an appeal outlining your financial worries. The worst that can happen is that they say no. And that’s ultimately their problem, as they’d be losing one of the great students they chose.

@als926‌ Awesome, I will try! Thank you for the encouragement :slight_smile:

@als926‌ i also just spoke with my parents and apparently the amount I put in for my student investment equity was double of what I actually have since it is both for me and my brother. so, when i put in the correct amount on college boards EFC calculator, my student expected contribution dropped by 50% …

i wonder if that is enough for an appeal…calling in a few hours when the office opens

@nydallas yeah! That’s absolutely enough for an appeal. https://www.fao.ucla.edu/appeals.html</a> there’s the page with the forms. I’m wishing you good luck! Hopefully we both can get enough extra aid to attend. :)

@als926‌ yes!! hoping for us both!! perhaps I’ll see you there this fall
