Financial Aid, who's fault?

My parents and I agreed this year that I would get the application in on time and they would take care of all financial aid aspects. Now that I have been accepted, I have been getting countless emails from the uchicago office of aid regarding missing materials. If you guys could help me figure out what is wrong with my situation, that'd be great because I have no clue what is going on.

The office of financial aid wants my parents' estimates of 2007 income, assets, taxes, and any untaxed income. Now from this email I received TODAY, it says they need this to provide an estimate, in fact they requested it earlier in December 5th. On a saturday a week or two ago when everyone else got their estimates, I got my estimates as well, grants and loans. This seems contradicting. My dad told me that he'll take care of the 2007 estimates but he could have no way of knowing the figures at the time.

Now the worst case scenario would be that my estimates are wrong. My dad claims that the office is confused and that I don't need to worry. I'm not so sure. Any feedback would be appreciated.

They may have used the CSS/Fafsa figures and your 2006 income actuals, but they do require the 2007 estimates. Your dad should provide the 2007 estimate ASAP; then he will need to sent the actuals. Yes, this is a lot of paperwork. However, if you are getting a decent grant ... it comes out to a pretty reasonable hourly value!

The question is not who is at fault but rather, how can you move forward? Sounds to me like you are in the middle of a situation over which you have no direct control. So, first step may be to have a conversation with the financial aid office ASAP. Find out exactly what they have and exactly what they need. Ask how and why your estimates could be wrong. Make sure you understand everything from the University's point of view. Then speak with your father and learn everything he has done and will do and when. Then you may know what to do! Good luck.

Oops-- sorry about the cross post-- listen to ohio_mom!

ok thanks a lot, I'll have everything sent out asap.
