I recently got accepted as a transfer into a university and paid the deposit, but I'm still not 100% sure whether I want to go or stay in my current institution.

If I accept their financial aid offer then decide a little later I want to stay in my current school (provided I haven't sent in my withdrawal yet), what happens to the financial aid and the costs? How can I inform the school that I've withdrawn so they won't charge my family?

If you accept the aid but do not attend, nothing will happen — you have to be registered in classes in order for aid to pay to your account. If you have signed up for any classes at the new school, you will have to make sure that you formally drop those classes (every school is different - you have to contact the school’s registrar to find out how this is done). It would also be a good idea to inform the financial aid department if you decide not to transfer - ask them to cancel the loans you accepted (if you did that), as well as any Pell you may have. The loans and Pell will not pay to your account if you have formally dropped the classes in time (more than 10 days before the first day of the term) - but it is always better to be safe, since you can’t get aid at two schools in the same term.
