So I just got my financial aid letter and Georgetown says "we are unable to offer you either federal or University need-based aid."

My eyes are still bugging out. Does anyone face this same problem? I mean, my parents are divorced, I ONLY depend on my mother who doesn't make much at all, we also have to support my grandparents who are living with us...

I have such a huge headache now.

Is it possible to get financial aid after they say that they're denying you aid? Graaah....

yeah... I think you could at least try to talk to the fin aid office. I read on this forum about a girl who didn't get any aid from gtown initially but after stating that gtown is her first choice and that she won't be able to attend they gave her 1/4 tuition. she said it's enough for her to attend and so they gave her 1/2 tuition.
So I guess these things are possible... good luck!

Yikes euphoric_potato, I was rejoicing my acceptance to Gtown, but now that I think about it, I can't even go if they can't offer me aid :(. Are you a US Citizen? Any special circumstances? Crossing my fingers (for both you and I).

wow, this makes me really nervous. ND gave me about 10,000 but Duke gave me nada. Georgetown is my first choice but my dad is already balking at the thought of paying full tuition. After all, UVA is a lot cheaper over the course of four years.....

On the contrary, I just got my financial aid package from Georgetown today and the only really complaint i have is that they added about $2000 to my family's FAFSA calculated EFC. Other than that the vast majority of the aid was in scholarship/grant money so G-town is now a real viable option.

For someone who's Fafsa has an EFC of 0, would Georgetown try to accomodate that or would they add a few thousands to the EFC like other's have gotten. (My dad makes under $9800/yr from a little private business and he's the only source of family income so we're pretty poor)

If I got some financial aid this year and I go to georgetown, is it possible/likely that my financial aid would be about the same if income and grades stayed the same? I'm just asking b/c I want to go to georgetown, but aid is a huge factor. How reliable is aid going to be? I've heard of some schools giving more aid to freshmen and then like nothing for the rest of the undergrad years. Is this true of georgetown?

In some ways, I'm not entirely surprised--Georgetown's endowment is pretty tiny compared to Ivies/Duke/other top universities. It sucks that it'll keep people from being able to go, though. >.<

I don't know if G-town is that stingy with everyone...I got 30k in scholarships, and then 6k in loans/work study. My EFC was something like 3000 and my non-custodial parent contribution was about 8000. All in all I have to pay about $13,000, which I think is good. I didn't realize how lucky I got.

I really feed bad for everyone who is still hoping for aid and is disappointed with what they got. I sincerely hope things work out that you can go to G-town!
