Financial Aid

So, is the financial aid package listed final? Or are accepted students going to receive a package in the mail with additional aid possibilities or anything?

The financial aid award letter that comes with your admission package is pretty much final. If your on the phone appeal is accepted, they will send the revised FA award letter to reflect the change.
Did you not receive some aid?

I’m just really mindblown with the aid I received. I wasn’t sure if it was tentative or final. I got a lot better aid from another place, and it just seemed weird that I just got only a scholarship. However, apparently I got one of the larger ones.

Did they include stafford and perkin loans or Pell grants?
My D was also offered a lot more from some other great schools. NYU is nortorius for bad FA.

They included the stafford and perkins loans, but I did not receive any grants. Did/Is your daughter attending NYU?

how is the FA appeal process when calling the FA office? i emailed them back in february (i’m ED) because i received nothing but loans, but they never responded, so i’m going to have to call them now

Greenpenguin65, yes, my D attends NYU.

The NYU FA office is known to be rather unyielding with appeals. I was informed by posters last year that the most they may give you is $1000-2000 extra if your appeal is successful. Someone came on this forum recently and encouraged people to try since she got an additional $3000 (the largest I read about with an appeal).

However, NYU does tell you that there is a special form to fill out for appeal if there are significant changes in your family finances due to unemployment, death, divorce, excessive medical expenses, etc. I am not sure how much this affects the financial aid package. No one here has reported on going through this process.
