Hello. I am applying to go to college in the US and I had some questions. I come from a non-English-speaking country and all my documents are in the language of my country. Recommendation letters, grade reports, income statement etc. Which can I translate on my own and which do I need to notarize? I also wanted to ask about the financial aid app. Which one should I fill in and where can I find the application? Thank you in advance. Everything is very overwhelming!!!

The documents need to be in English, I believe. Those submitting them should be doing the translations. You can’t be the FIRST kid who has applied to college in a country other than your native land. Ask the folks at your school to do the translations. For many schools, you can’t submit your own letters of reference, for example. They must be sent directly from the school.

Re: financial aid…what you need to submit varies wildly by school. Go to you colleges’ websites and look in the financial aid section for International Student Financial Aid. This will tell you IF your school awards aid to international students, which forms to submit, and the DEADLINES for submission.

If the ones in your country are as good as the ones I used to work with when we lived outside the US, you will be in good hands.
