Has anyone ever gotten into a school and not initially been offered financial aid and then received financial aid upon asking? This is really important so please reply if you know anything about instances such as this.

Did you apply for FA when you submitted your applications?

Some schools notify parents of FA awards and don’t include it in the child’s M10 notification. Schools may also send the FA information via snail mail and it often arrives after M10.

I have heard of people requesting schools to increase initial FA awards. I don’t know about asking for FA after offers of admission have already been extended. I would think all FA funds for the incoming students have been awarded at this time.

I did apply for FA and the schools that I got into said that they cannot give me FA via email.

If your parents believe their financial situation will not support the tuition required to attend the school, they should contact the FA office directly to discuss possible options available to them.

Good luck!

My kids’ school (Concord) has a financial aid appeal process (described in the FAQ on the FA web page). Perhaps the schools you applied to have a similar process.

Are you sure you haven’t been given financial aid? Back in the day, that information didn’t come through until we got the snail mail acceptance. Did you get that info. from everyone by email?

Thank you so much! My parents have contacted the school and will have a phone call with the director of FA. I received emails from the schools I was accepted at.

@needtoboard, Exeter FA office sent our offer via email at around 8am.

Yes @booklady123 I was told that I will not be given any financial aid so the question I am posing is if the school will reconsider upon us asking.

Oh!! Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you meant that you applied for financial aid but you had not heard anything. You are saying you heard from them but they could not offer you what you were hoping for. Got it. (Am a little overtired!)

Each school handles financial aid a little differently but generally if you were admitted and you qualified for aid and none was granted, the school may reconsider your aid package if some $$ become available in a few weeks when some of the students who received aid choose other schools - hang tough! Some schools also keep a financial aid wait list. Your parents are doing the right thing by talking to the director right away so the schools know you are interested.

Another option if your family only qualified for a small amount of aid is to attend without aid which is what we did - it is a tough road and not possible for everyone but several on CC in your situation have chosen this. Most of all… hugs, you did everything you could do and you should be very proud of your acceptance(s). I know being accepted without aid can be a heartbreaking scenario. It is also possible that the financial aid info is coming later in a separate email as classicalmama noted unless your email spelled everything out re FA

Your parents’ talking to the FA office is the best thing at this point. Keep in mind, though, that it’s harder to get in as an FA applicant, so your FP status might have helped you there. Exeter’s so generous with FA and allocates those dollars so carefully…but it can’t hurt to ask. If nothing else, maybe they’ll give your parents some ideas for financing. Best of luck!
