Financial Aid

Hello ,
I am an international student, this September i am going to start the 2nd year of high school.(in my country high school concludes 3 years) I've been searching for ages for MIT admissions, scholarships .. , but i am not sure for something. When should an international student apply for a financial aid ? Hope you can help
Thank you

After MIT receives your application they will let you know what the deadline is for your financial aid application.

I read somewhere that we should apply every year, but if it’s so thank you!

You’ll have to apply every year that you’re a student at MIT, during the spring before that school year. So you apply for aid for your freshman year by ~February 15 of the year that you’re applyiing, and then apply for aid for your sophomore year during the spring of your freshman year, and so forth.

It is normal to apply each year, as family financial circumstances may change dramatically year to year. For example you may apply from a family that needs a lot of aid to be able to attend, and then suddenly win the lottery, and now have no real financial need. On the other hand, you may qualify for only a small amount of aid, and then have an issue that drains the family assets, such as a major medical condition, or a loss of the primary income earner’s job, and then in subsequent years need much more aid. It does fluctuate over time and so it is appropriate to apply each year.

The important thing is that MIT guarantees to meet the students financial need over four years of education. There are a very small number of unscrupulous schools that take advantage of the fact that aid is awarded year by year, and so award disproportionate aid in the first year, to get students to come to their school, and then those students are in real trouble in subsequent years. With MIT you do not need to worry. Assuming that the family situation does not change materially, the aid you get as a frosh is going to be very similar to be the aid you get in subsequent years.

@Mikalye Thank you!
