Does anyone know a date for when financial aid packages come out? I have to wait for it before I commit, and I want to commit as soon as possible. Please post when you receive yours!
Should be soon, my email said late march
Yes, but is there any speculation on an exact date? Like will it be this week or next?
Today apparently. Just got an email.
I had my daughter login just now and no financial aid news posted on her portal yet. Maybe doing it in waves?
Is anyone directly contacting their admitted college for additional merit? Son (36 ACT superscore, 4.7 etc.) received Maximus but nothing additional from his college (per financial aid decision received yesterday). Website says his college only uses 15% of their recruiting budget for incoming freshman and the rest to retain/reward students. Like most, we were hoping for more.
@grndad Are you in state? OSU doesn’t superscore. We are OOS and have a junior at OSU currently. Also have an incoming freshman. We have yet to receive the financial aid decision, but did receive a letter about scholarships–Trustee and National Buckeye. I am fairly certain you have to complete the special application to receive additional from the specific colleges. Looking forward to getting the financial aid package.
Correct, @OhioAlum - they neither superscore, nor pay attention to weighted GPAs. A 4.7 could be a 4.7 out of 5.0, 6.0, etc. They always break down the GPA to a 4.0 scale, THEN look at your “strength of schedule” and take that into consideration. As for your ACT, you just send your highest and best with writing and call it a day.
Sorry @bucks724 & @OhioAlum . I did not want to waste the time of anyone with his complete bio. I summarized and generalized for this reason. We are in state. I am aware that OSU does not superscore. I used this number only to make a point (poorly). His composite score is a 35. I don’t know what the unweighted GPA is. All grades above an A-. Accepted to honors engineering - EA. He did complete the separate application and we received the final financial aid with no mention of additional merit.

@grndad Totally understand. I haven’t heard of too many people getting more than the Maximus, Provost or Trustee-unless they applied for Morrill. We are fortunate to have the National Buckeye to help cover the cost of the OOS. And, just from my personal experience, OSU was among the top in scholarship $$ received for both of my kids…including—Iowa, Minnesota, Purdue, Indiana, Clemson. The only better money was from Ohio U–and that’s because we are alums. Good luck with whatever your son decides!
Thanks @OhioAlum. My wife and I also attended OU. She graduated a Bearcat while I finished at Akron U. OSU Engineering site indicates that they do provide merit separately but, only 15% is used to recruit new students. Apparently, he was not in the mix. We are rewarding him for all his hard work by allowing him to choose some of the better engineering schools. This has been an eye-opening experience. So many highly qualified students and so little merit at the flagship schools. Good luck to your family!
