<p>So, I just got my package in the mail, and it seems as though the majority of my tuition is expected to come from loans (basically, my family pays). I was wondering if anyone else got theirs yet, and if merit-based awards are included in the calculations, or if they're sent separately?</p>

<p>Not all colleges are expensive. NYU is a heavy hitter though, scholarships or w/o.</p>
<p>Others were saying that the acceptance package and the aid package come separately. Presumably, they provide loan options early on to give you the opportunity to consider the worst-case scenario (ie. no merit or need aid).</p>
<p>That would be an amazing relief; I had (and still have) doubts because I have something called "Stern Scholarship" under one of my sources, and started panicking that that's all I would receive. I don't want my parents to pay off so many loans, even for Stern.</p>

<p>If you don't receive aid from NYU at all and you're not filthy rich and want to go to grad. school after college, be wise and go to a less expensive school. This is what I'm going to do after I'm done crying when I receive my packet on Apr. 1. It's depressing as hell, but I can always go to NYU for grad school.</p>
<p>I can understand where you're coming from, but if grad school is your motivator, always consider combined programs. Many departments at NYU do a 5-year BA/MA program which would cut a year off and provides a guaranteed half-tuition scholarship for your fifth year.</p>
<p>And I think that there are more university wide and school specific scholarships available for people than what was stated on the FinAid package. I'm just not sure when we receive notice of whether or not we get them...</p>

<p>///mzeasy, my D got her package from Gallatin today, with no mention of merit aid. I called to verify whether it might come separately. Answer was no. So $36K full tuition merit at Brandeis, $24K at Tulane and NYU Gallatin doesn't offer a symbolic $3k? One less dilemma.</p>
<p>NYU gave me a $15,000 Julius Silver scholarship but only $1,000 in grants... the rest loans... Lehigh is SO much cheaper.</p>

<p>No financial aid sheet. Didn't qualify for need-based aid. Awards from other schools were merit based only.</p>
<p>Sorry to hear that you didn't get a great deal. I am still hoping though, I think that I have a very legitimate combination of merit and need.</p>

<p>**Note, top 8% applicants will receive Honors Program invitation in a separate envelope than their admissions/FinAid packet. There is a scholarship that comes with that but it's need/merit based</p>
<p>Is the 8% figure for honors at CAS or the entire university? I hope it's done by school, I feel like Gallatin would be a bit more subjective in their awards.</p>
