I haven’t gotten my aid package yet, only my big acceptance envelope. Hopefully it will come before the end of the week…

They gave me $157 a semester (0_o), which means I just can’t afford to go at that rate. I guess it’s time to start begging, although I don’t know if they’d consider multiplying their grant by 50 just to save me from non-Cornellian depression.

Should I call them directly instead of using the formal appeals process? (or even visit them in person?)

Yea, I got an email about missing a CSS profile too. My mother just emailed them with the receipt, they haven’t responded. Does the financial aid package come separately if you’re supposedly “missing” information?

~blueducky

the financial aid award comes separately from the big envelope regardless.

Got the info packet and FA info today . . . amazing financial aid!
Very generous.

Any way I can check this online or do I have to wait for snail mail?

hhmmm-that’s great to hear as far as NU aid vs cornell. I got my financial aid from NU today and it doesn’t even come close to being enough. My dad said he expected Cornell to be the same or worse but hopefully their new initiative is coming through since they provided better aid! I just got my acceptance packet from Cornell in the mail today so hopefully my aid comes soon! I’m also wondering about the national merit situation. A lot of schools I know of give a couple thousand a year…anyone know about Cornell?

I emailed a while ago, apparently nothing, the scholarship is used towards your financial aid though. Cornell offers no Merit based scholarships as far as I know, only Need based.

Curious, as Northwestern was the same deal with me eight years ago! Absolutely no aid. But Cornell came through for me (and I was in-state, to boot!)

is cornell good about considering special circumstances?

Yes, I found the FA office to be very pleasant to work with…and I’m not always easy to deal with when I’m upset!

If you have a legitimate reason for special circumstances to be considered, they will work with you.

I’ve only gotten my big envelope thus far…really anxious to get my FA package. I really, really hope it’s generous (a lot of you here seem to have been offered some great deals!) I already have a full tuition scholarship to go to Vanderbilt but if money weren’t an issue, I’d go to Cornell. Meh…

Yeah, both my FA package and my welcome packet/letter came today, but in separate envelopes.

It took about 20 minutes after seeing my FA and I already had my deposit in the mail back to Ithaca. So fast that it’s gonna be postmarked today.

Can’t believe I’m going to Cornell…

I submitted most of my stuff late, but it was all in by the end of february however.

I got my financial aid the other day and I was pretty surprised… they gave me an international scholar award and I only need to pay 4,000 $US a year, which is the best so far… now it’s time for decisions… Columbia, Cornell or MIT engineering?

eh, cornell>columbia but mit>cornell
mit>pretty much everybody when it comes to engineering

Very true, but Cornell’s engineering programs are certainly well respected. Very well respected.

And if you only have to pay 4k per year to go to Cornell, I’d be all over that in a heartbeat.

Wow, I really can’t wait to hear my offer. I have a weird situation though–based on 2008 income, i’ll pretty much end up with nothing (parents’ combined income >$200K) but my mother was laid-off September of 2008. Now our annual income is only $125k. Will Cornell reconsider based on this “special situation”?

I really hope I get around $20K in grants because only then will my parents let me choose Cornell over UCB’s in-state tuition…

haven’t heard about FA yet but my family income (single mom, 2 kids) is <$60,000 so I don’t think I’ll have to pay anything… it’s something all ivies are doing, I think.

if your cornell finAID is better than your MIT one…i would haggle with MIT to see if they can match that (give or take a thousand)

You can file an appeal based on this new information.
