Financial aid!!!

I’m getting really worried. My aid still hasn’t come.

I already emailed them about it, and they haven’t replied. Ughhh.

Call. They close at 4:30. They’re pretty helpful when you do call.

I’m still waiting for my '08 tax forms to be processed. the only thing that changed is really just my parents got $4000 more in terms of AGI and $1000 more in taxes…will my award stay the same?

finally got my aid package today

11k grant, and then 9k in loans and FWS

pretty good i guess, wasn’t expecting much

Will they really force you to make a decision before they give you the financial aid package?

Not really forcing you… Its just that you might have to choose before they are done with your file/ mailed it to you. I finished everything and she said that I should call back in a week or so to see how my Fin Aid is coming along.

still nothing  Anyone else?
I’m definitely calling tomorrow.

I called today, and they said everything should be out by the middle of next week :/.

not a single penny of aid. Ah well, today I was rejected to cornell from the financial aid office lol.

Do the aid guidelines such as (taken from the website)

Beginning 2009-2010, Cornell will:

Eliminate the parental contribution for students from families with incomes below $60,000 and assets below $100,000;

Apple only to home students or internationals as well? If they don’t, is it too late to apply for aid?

When do Transfer students get their financial aid package? is it like 1-2 weeks after they completing the financial aid stuff?

The financial aid initiative is applicable to US/Canadian citizens, asylees and permanent residents and Mexican citizens. It is not too late to apply for aid, but it might be a few weeks before you get notification of an award and you may not find out before the May 1 deposit deadline.

Financial aid is awarded to approximately 12-15 international students per year based on a number of factors. There is a new initiative that will benefit students from India and should be implemented soon.

The FA office is still processing awards for accepted freshman to hopefully mail them before the deposit deadline. Transfers will probably receive notification beginning in May. You can always call the office and find out.

Is it possible to receive aid after the first year (e.g. in the third and fourth years) due to changed family circumstances? My brother will be applying to college after two years, will I be (re)considered for aid then, having paid full fee for the first two years

Absolutely. I had a friend who applied for aid his first year and was deemed ineligible. The second year, his brother went to college so he reapplied for aid and received it.

Was he international by any chance? (I’m guessing not). Would this seriously hamper my chances?

He was a domestic student.

If you are international, it’s highly unlikely you can receive financial aid after your freshman year.

It might be beneficial for you to contact the financial aid office and see if any options are available to you.

my mom is unemployed and my dad makes about middle class. however, we have an EFC of 30k, and then 4k in cornell loans, 2k in student contribution and get this: 8k in loans from the canadian govt.

i, too, was rejected by the cornell financial aid office. probably will be giving up my spot for someone from the waitlist…

deep sigh

finally got my package (sorry to keep bumping this thread)
FAFSA EFC=14,500 but Cornell’s = 26,000? ■■■.

When does transfer student received their financial aid package? And it is the same for all the other applicants correct?

still waiting :/
