Financial Aid

Anyone else dissatisfied with the financial aid package they got? Penn is expecting me to pay twice as much out-of-pocket as Vanderbilt is. It's really making me reconsider. (I'm posting this so late because I'm a transfer)

^ Have you asked Penn to match the Vanderbilt package (assuming it’s all need-based)? Of course, Penn won’t match any merit-based aid.

I am dissatisfied. I’m getting no financial aid (Penn says I can contribute 84,000 a year), while Amherst offered me 10,000/year. But I think the investment is well worth the expensive cost.

Well, I agree that it may be worth. May. But there’s no way to be sure, and going into considerable debt isn’t very appealing to me when I have a full scholarship and stipend at Ohio State.
And yeah, I called Penn today to see if any of it could be reconsidered (I cited my Vanderbilt package as an example) and the woman was very unfriendly and told me no.

^ Are you sure you spoke to the right person, and not just a member of the support staff? I can’t imagine a FA officer–as opposed to a receptionist or secretary–being unfriendly or rude under those circumstances. You may want to email a written request for reconsideration–again citing your Vanderbilt package–or call again and make sure that you speak to someone in authority (if you haven’t already):

Yeah, I talked to an assistant director or something. But I sent an email, since the woman I talked to seemed mad about something. Probably the amount of calls they were receiving; I had to wait about 20 minutes just to talk to her, so I know she was really busy.

Penn’s administration seems really impersonal to me, so I’m not surprised. They never responded to any of my emails, while all of the other schools I applied to did. Whatevssss

^ You should send an email directly to Furda about that. I’m sure he would not be pleased to know that applicants were not receiving responses from his staff.

Did anyone not receive their package? I didn;t.

It should be online with your acceptance. Go to pennplan online or whatever it’s called and your award should be listed there.

All I get is “Thank You, Please remember to logout” that’s it.

That’s strange. Maybe they’re still coming up with your aid.

Does anyone know what kind of people work at the Financial Aid office?? Apparently they cannot keep track of the items sent to them. I just received a letter stating my FAFSA and CSS were not sent… I call them and they have my CSS but not my FAFSA. Wow…
