i was wondering if anyone got a notification or email requesting copies of documents to be sent to collegeboard. and when they're reviewing financial stuff do they review your application for the jobs you've had this year?

Yes we were notified for copies of documents which include tax documents, so that will verify employment, but that in our case is only for the parents not the student. It will depend on how and what you have filed.

I got the request as well. I think it was mainly because my PROFILE was filled out using 2008 tax returns and my FAFSA was filled out using 2009 tax returns, so of course they did not have the same information.

I got one asking for me to fill out the CSS but I dont want to because I heard you had to pay for it. Is that true?

Yes, you have to pay $25 for the first college.

That’s so stupid. I’m not paying that til I know im accepted lol waiting on that RD notification. Why does it cost money anyway? The FAFSA is free.

thanks guys
and yea CSS is like 3x longer than fasfa too… its dumb and cometstarg you should submit your css because if you wait till u get accepted you’ll prolly get a small financial package

The CSS PROFILE is from the Collegeboard which loves to suck student’s (and their parent’s) money. You could decide not to fill out the PROFILE, but in most cased that mean that you will not be considered for institutional grants from those school(s) that use it. And be careful with waiting to fill it out. Most school want it done in February or early-March.
The FAFSA evaluates your eligibility for money from the government (ie. Pell Grant, Stafford Loan, Perkins Loan, Work Study, AGC, etc.).

I got 15k in grant money. I didnt think my family would get any. so i think css is worth it.

sigh. 3x longer than FAFSA? and i thought i was done with my paperwork lol

The CSS PROFILE is ridiculous long, but it’s worth it once you get institutional grants.

Useless paperwork that costs you money is part of life. You should get used to it now. Just wait till you start doing your own taxes.
