Hey everyone... so I got stuck in my last choice... Hartley doubles.... Anyway, I read that the bathrooms were co-ed right? well I checked the box thingy that said "Prefer single-sex floors" ...... and to make things worse. Err I'm not sure how to check roommate status and stuff.... but I went to applications and then status. At the bottom of the page is occupancy information with "view profile." The view profile only lets me see gender, age, and what time they go to sleep at. My problem is this.... I freaking chose "prefer single sex" and hartley double was last choice. In the occupancy information, there are 14 ppl listed..... 13 males and 1 female. I'm a female who chose "prefer single sex floors" and I get stuck with almost all guys? Did Columbia actually read what I wrote?.........can i email them to ask for a change?

Woah…something is messed up there.

You said that you have a roommate AND that you’re the only female? There’s no way that you could have an opposite-sex roommate, I think. Mistake made on behalf of dear CU Housing, perhaps?

^ Thank god starstruckkk… i wasn’t thinking clearly since i was fuming over Columbia. The one other girl is my roommate. since it says something like 4b8-1 and 4b8-2 so I’m assuming that means the girl and I are roommates… Anyway, I most certainly did NOT write something like “I prefer to live with all guys.” and even if I did… you’d think COlumbia wouuld email me asking “you checked “prefer single sex floors” but you wrote you prefer to live with all guys and you’re a girl?”

Help! So can i email them for a change?

Yeah, go ahead and email Housing. Good luck with everything!

If they don’t reply promptly, maybe as a last resort you can try calling Housing and asking to speak to Joyce Jackson, I guess.

edit: Actually, I just remembered that the only single-sex floor available is in Carman. Every other floor in all the dorms is coed. So chances are, even if they allow you to switch rooms, you will still be on a coed floor.

I’m with you too, just on the 7th not the 4th floor.

I’m nearly positive that info is wrong, it’s HIGHLY unlikely that you’re with 13 guys and 1 girl. They simply wouldn’t do that in the Hartley and Wallach. Also the bathrooms are shared but privatish, the doors close completely and the showers have a door and a curtain, so don’t worry about sharing. read my post in the housing thread about hartley, it sounds like hell, but you might end up being very glad you are there. Also sharing a floor with guys really isn’t a big deal in the Hartley and Wallach, the guys generally tend to be friendly and not the crazy kind. And you are going to have to live with guy in the coming years so baptism by fire i suppose?

Trivia – my freshman year, the H/W shower doors didn’t line up properly with the frames and there’d be a gap between the door and the frame that was almost a functional peephole if you’re into that sort of thing. That summer, they fixed them by putting a metal strip in.

That seems very unlikely. Isn’t it something like 70% get their first-choice and 90% get their second choice? How many options did you select, cremeandcheese64?

I’m in wallach and it was near the bottom of my preferences…I’ve heard a bunch of other people had the llc choices near the bottom of their housing preferences and still ended up with them.
