Find out decision on friday?

^ Umm not really....If you were a minority u would understand how it feels to be a minority.....like alienated and a feeling of not belonging.....its just awkward. but u are right about the socioeconomic conditions and AA being unfair to a certain level (I admit it and I am a URM)...I thought Emory releasing decisions early for minorities was a bit unfair... But I LOVE IT!

NorCalDad - nicely put.
Strong URM students are highly sought after - I look at them like atheletes, many schools will step outside of the general rules to admit these students. Is it fair? If by fair you mean the same for everybody, the answer is no. If by fair, you mean each student gets a holistic review of their application, I believe so.
Waiting stinks, I was just "priority waitlisted" by Rice so in a way Saturday is too soon for me, don't want another disappointment so quickly. Woops, gotta start thinking positively.
Good luck everybody!

I'm a URM and put so on my app, but I didn't receive the email, and my decision isn't posted on my OPUS yet. D:

Same here Rayshawn28.
Did they only send decisions to accepted URMs?
Does it mean that I definitely did not get in because I have not heard back already?
:(

^ maybe you were mis placed like in the "white pile?" i will call if i were you..

"racism at its worst"? "**** emory"? Seriously, guys? In all honestly, we have all waited over three months to have our decisions released. Why is one week such a big deal? And ESPECIALLY since it was necessary to notify these students earlier so they can plan to attend whatever minority recruitment weekend Emory is planning? I know that we're all waiting and are jealous of people who no longer have the same anxiety. However, in the grand scheme of things, an online decision seven days earlier for some students is not racist, it is not a slight to the majority. It is simply pragmatic planning on the part of the school. I am appalled at the overly aggressive attitude of many posters on this thread, and would like to whole-heartedly congratulate all URMs who have gotten into emory. Everyone that gets into Emory is qualified to be there, regardless of their race or when they recieve their acceptance.

^ one black kid in my hs got into Emory without having a single A in his transcript!! he is very lazy and also anti-social!!! i don't know why you are saying that everyone is qualified to go to Emory because right now before my eyes i have a bad example of a great student!!! he is even very surprised himself... and everyone at my hs is too!!

So what you're saying is that since he had no A's on his transcript, he isn't qualified to be a part of the Emory Class of '13? He is a lazy person? You ever thought that he made himself to be an high school star in his application, even with "no A's on his transcript"?

^ everybody know who he is!!! Emory is a great institution if guys like him got in the school will take a plunge for the worse! there are great students applying for Emory, why not taking them instead of that one? he's taking someone else's spot!

^

But just because he is lazy in high school doesn't mean that he will not be a great student at Emory. Come on now? Emory doesn't just up and accept people for no reason! The person reading his application liked what he/she read and decided that he would fit Emory's environment.

And I am sure everyone knows who he is! Seems as if he is quite popular! I'm sure his popularity will transfer into Emory. Tell him I said, "See you there!"

^ he's gonna recognized you!! don't worry!

i'm in the same position as a few people here.
i'm hispanic and have yet to hear anything. i'm freaking out bc i feel like this means i've been rejected.
has anyone heard of anyone who's already been rejected online or has anyone called the admissions office to find out what's going on?
i just don't understand, i feel more qualified than some people who've been accepted. for example, someone got in with a 25 act!
i'm so confused. help please.

undecided- i'm in the same boat as you. i am also hispanic and have not yet heard. I think i am qualified for emory (yes, especially based on the stats of other people who have heard). I guess we just wait. I've debated calling the admissions office to ask what it means that we have not yet heard, but i am assuming they'll just say it doesn't mean anything.

I'm extremely grateful that a few of you are not in charge of admission at Emory. If your opinions regarding who is or is not worthy of admission were of any consequence, I fear you'd so much as deny me the honor of propping a wobbly leg of your ivory towers with my application and transcripts.

I'm also hispanic and have not heard anything back from Emory. I thought I had a pretty decent shot at it and I just got into a more selective program at another school. Haha. Go figure. I guess if I don't get in it validates the sentiment that college admissions are, to some extent, a 'total crapshoot'.

p.s. any other hispanics who haven't heard back yet from outside of the south? I am from NY. I'm not sure if there is any location correlation.

I think it is kind of silly to say someone is or is not worthy of acceptance:]

Unless you are an admissions counselor for Emory, I doubt there is much wisdom you can bring to that discussion.

^agreed

I think we are in no position to judge who is "worthy" and who isn't worthy of being accepted. We have to look over the whole application to be able to judge, not just some scores. Honestly I believe that in the end, it all comes down to luck and uniqueness because we see that people with the awesomest scores even get rejected from universities.

Wait a minute now,

I HAVE A 25 ON THE ACT. THAT DIDN'T MEAN I WASN'T WORTHY OF EMORY. HAH, IT IS PEOPLE WITH 30+ ON THE ACT AND GOT REJECTED. SOME WORTHINESS.

I agree. I am so glad these people are not in charge of admissions! IT is people like this that make me want to rub my acceptance in their f faces!

^ your sanity is most refreshing.

I'm sorry if I seem mad. But it sickens me that people define you by a number.
