I'm unsure about how exactly to say how many weeks/year and hours/week i spent in a couple groups/organizations because they aren't like a sport where you have more defined hours each week. Should i just put the number of hours per week as one and then weeks per year as my total number of hours?

Nope. What if you have 134 hours?

There wasn’t a rough weekly schedule? You could divide the number of hours in a month by weeks in the month, if you really needed to.

well let’s say i have around 25-30 hours for each group, then wouldn’t it work to put down an hour a week and whatever like 25-30 weeks per year? this isn’t for every group, just two of them that don’t have a definite weekly schedule.

When did you begin with the group? How many weeks has it been?

i’ve been a member for several of my years in hs, but it’s asking about total per year- not altogether so…?

Okay. If you regularly participate during school (not just once in a blue moon), and only during the school year, then you can put the amount of weeks in the school year, then how often a week you participate (on average - divide). Or you can do it your way, I don’t think it will make a major difference.

thanks for the input. Also, on a side note, do you know if I’d be able to put down something like working out as an extracurricular or anywhere else? I workout 4 hours a week, just wasn’t sure if that counts towards anything. i have other sports and groups and a job too.

An extracurricular activity is something you regularly do outside of classes/homework. So yeah, working out could count.

Don’t feel as though you need to account for all your time by reporting hours in the EC section. “Working out 4 hrs/wk” is not necessarily going to enhance your college application.

Choose ECs that show how you have developed as a person or as a leader, how you have participated or excelled, and especially how you might get involved with others on a college campus when you go to school there. Also, choose ECs that will catch the attention of an admissions counselor and make that person want to meet you. But, think long and hard before you choose ECs that don’t fit one of these categories. You don’t want to clutter up your application and make it harder for the reader to focus on your important activities and skills.
