Finding Match Schools

Bump.10char.

One more bump and I am done, so updated list feed back:
Reach:
Columbia
UPenn
Brown
JHU
Cornell (low)
Georgetown (low)

Duke(?)

Match
Boston College
Tufts
UVA (?)

Safety:
Loyola
GWU
NYU

Holy cross and Wesleyan still to be investigated.

Well. I figured I’d get a couple other opinions. Bump.

I’d say notre dame would be a match, and i would also look at all the prestigious LAC’s in the northeast, your in the range for most.

How does my list on post 43 look?

It looks solid, I would cut a couple schools that are reaches that you just picked because of their prestige.

The whole list was based in prestige. Then it grew to a like of them. Duke is the only reach on the list I really picked out for prestige because it was suggested (will visit before applying).

Bump…

if you’re interested in public universities here are a few
university of north carolina- chapel hill
university of michigan
university of minnesota (very cheap, 20k per year i believe for OOS)
university of wisconsin- madison
university of texas at austin

What do you think of the colleges on my list? In addition to UVA?

i don’t really know enough about the universities on your list, sorry. but i’m thinking all the ivys on your list should be reaches from what i’ve heard about them, and the non-safety non-ivy league schools should be in match range.

So from your experience, Georgetown, Tufts, BC, and Johns Hopkins are matches?
Thanks btw.

Duke is a definite reach. JHU is a low reach. UVA is a borderline match/low reach school (It’s much more competitive for out of state applicants. If you live in Virginia, then you’re in UVA. Same with Duke, you get a boost if you live in North Carolina).Otherwise, your list is fine.

I would say yes, they are matches, although, once again, i don’t know much about them. but good luck with your applications.

Okay. That’s awesome. Thanks cortana again for clearing things up for my app, and thanks UDUBHuskies as well for your thoughts!

Your list on post #43 looks really realistic, I think you will definitely get into your safeties, most of your targets, and a few of your reaches as well! you have a really strong application :D

Thanks. Of the reaches which look the best in terms of admission?

@Divy, Cornell, JHU, and Georgetown. Columbia, Penn, Brown and Duke are basically toss ups but I think you’ll at least be waitlisted from most, if not all, of those 4 schools.

Thanks to both of you. @neuroengineer, essentially the top 10 Schools are of that caliber and the top 5 is sort of scattered (in that some kind of choose a financially apt school) However many just outside of the top 5 end up choosing the Big selective schools so I said that it’s essentially the top 5 in numbers and rank. For example we had swarthmore duke vandy georgetown notre dame and wustl admits, this year in a small class, some multiples. No ivies this year though (Vals and sals didnt apply). I will try to get the list to about 10 schools. @cortana, that sounds pretty awesome. IF I happened to get into those schools and even waitlisted at the other 4 I would be pretty okay with that result.

UPDATE: I will be getting a recommendation from the chair of the lab department. He is very well known and has received a very prestigious honor (won’t name to ensure anonymity). I will probably speak about what I do here and hopefully he can speak to my dedication. Does the chair’s prestige add something to my application? I doubt there are many, if any, getting a reccomendation from a lab chair with this kind of honor.
