I've been told that this class is ridiculously hard compared to Calculus. I didn't take Pre-cal in high school. Instead, I took Discrete Math, and we used a Finite Mathematics book in the class. I really enjoyed working out the problems. I don't have patience for a lot of numbers that mean absolutely nothing to me in the end. I like the fact that Finite is more real world. I ended up passing Discrete with ease. Will Finite really be that hard for me? By the way, Greg Kattner is teaching the class I am in. If anyone knows his skill as a teacher I would love to know!

I don’t know how hard it will be for you, but I do know that a lot of people who did well in Finite struggled in Calculus and vice-versa.

Kattner is a great guy. He’s a real character though haha but it makes him all the more funny. He really cares about his students, and will make sure everyone understands the problems in class before moving on. As for doing well, I’m sure you’ll be able to. If you put in the work and ensure that you understand the concepts, you’ll do fine. Also, do all of the practice tests that are available to you online. I did all the final exam practice tests and got a 98 on it.

Finite isn’t too bad as long as you pay attention in class and devote a little bit of extra time to webwork and such every day. It’s the students who BS their way through the homework and don’t really pay attention who ultimately get screwed over come test time. Plus you seem to already be good at math and most of the people I knew who were strong at math before college did well in finite.

I never had Kattner but from what I know/have heard, he is one of the more in-demand, better finite professors at IU.
