First F ever :(

So I recently failed my first semester of algebra two. My counselor decided to actually put me back into second semester of algebra one (real ego booster) because freshmen year (I’m now a junior) I got a B first semester and a D second semester with a crap teacher but I’m not gonna get into that. So I’ve been taking all these ap and honors courses since freshmen year and wanting to go to a Cal state (I don’t plan on applying to a UC) and then this stinking F is staining my transcript. Is it possible for me to take statistics senior year and have that validate my F in algebra two first semester ? How will this effect my chances at a Cal state? I’ve also been doing research trying to find an online algebra two course through a local college called Cuesta College. I want to do it online because I know I’m going to be gone for some of the summer and I also want to get a job. Is it also possible for a university or something to offer it that’s accredited (side note I don’t care if it costs money). I don’t want to take it at my school because if you fail a class they put you with a different teacher but I have heard nothing but negative things if the other math teachers so I don’t want to just go in a get another freaking F. I want to do it on my own terms online through its flexibility I know I could pass it with a C or higher I just don’t know if these exists. I am just really really near my breaking point and all I want to do is go to a Cal state. Is that too much to ask for?? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you so much.

  1. If you do not retake the exact class, then the F remains on your transcript which would be calculated into your CSU GPA.

  2. Even if you retake it Senior year, CSU GPA is calculated based on 10-11th grades only so Senior year grades will not be considered. I suggest you retake during the summer at your HS if possible or check with your counselor to make sure the CC course will replace the F grade. If you are able to replace the grade prior to CSU applications, then you only have to report the repeat grade for the CSU application.

  3. Taking stats validates Algebra 2 but it does not replace the F that will be used in the CSU GPA calculation.

Be sure to work with your HS counselor if you take any community college classes.
You’ll need to have them sign a ‘concurrent’ enrollment form, and to confirm that the class you take will validate your current Algebra 2 class. Some college classes seem like they would work but don’t, so be sure to verify.
