I'm dying.

So junior year is incredibly rigorous with my courseload of ap classes and upper level foreign language. Our school has never really been know for their incredible math program so me along with many other students aren’t being successful and thriving in algebra 2. So I’m pretty sure that I’m going to bomb the final next week and I have a low D right now (probably going to be the first class I ever failed). So now what? That’s it? No CSU/UC experience for me? All those ap and honors class for the last for the last three years have been for nothing? This class is really going to be the end of it all! I’m frustrated because I ask for help and the teacher becomes mad and she was happy when she found out she was blocking college for many students. Like who does that. Anyways enough with the sob story, what can I do now (and not community college because I’m worked my tail off) I’ve heard of options I have with that grade. Like retaking it over the summer, something about course validation, I just don’t know my options because the CSU schools look perfect for me but then there’s this stupid grade. Please let me know of any information helpful to me.

Have you tried khan academy? Free online video explanations and practice problems. Does your school offer after-school peer tutoring or anything like that? Could your parents afford to pay for a private tutor?

One grade or one class will NOT ruin your future! You will re-take, survive and thrive. Go see your school counselor right away.

If you get a D or F in Algebra 2 first semester but get a C or higher 2nd semester, then your Math course is validated and you get credit for 1 year. However, if you do not retake the 1st semester then that D or F will be calculated into your UC and CSU Capped weighted GPA. You can retake the semester/class in the Summer and that grade will replace the first grade in the GPA calculation. For the CSU’s, you only have to report the repeat grade but for the UC’s, you have to report both the original and repeat grade.

I understand your frustration but you have been given some ideas on how to get that grade up to hopefully a C by semester’s end. If not, remember that one grade is not the end of the world and retaking the course will help reinforce the material so that you will succeed in your Senior year Math course.

Thank you all I really appreciate it :).

This is one of the rare instances where it might be money well spent to hire a tutor.
