First Generation College Student Help

I'm confused as to put for my parents' education (college and degree). Both my mom and my dad went to community college, but neither went for more than a year so neither earned a degree.

Do I not even put a college / degree?
OR do I put the CEEB and college name followed by high school diploma?
OR do I put the CEEB and college name followed by "some college"?

I can't figure out which one they are looking for... so thanks for the help!

If they both attended but never graduated, choose ‘Some College’. If you can’t find the CEEB for the college, make sure you select the ‘Not Found’ link, which populates all 0’s in the CEEB Code box.

Thank you again, TD2Belt!! You’re very helpful.

Just put 0000 as the CEEB code and for the degree selection - “none”

Thank you! So I’m guessing one of you two are correct… But which one? :O

Lehigh2017,

“Some college” would be the appropriate designation. As for the CEEB, you can’t type directly into the box. Instead, click “look up” and follow the instructions.

Okay, thanks. I guess that’s what I’ll do.

@Lehigh2017 : But isn’t the selection “some college” only to be used if your parents have attended college and can’t recall the name or the degree they received? So you put “some college” because they have in fact graduated with a degree from college, but cannot recollect the name of the college nor the degree? Correct me if I’m wrong, I’m sorry if what I said is nonsense. Lol ^_^

That is what I worry about! I feel like some college means exactly what you said. You did some college, not sure of where, how much, etc, but some.

No. I assure you the intent of “some college” is to convey that your parent experienced college level courses–somewhere, in some way–but never earned a degree–not a 2-year degree, not a 4-year degree. If you indicate “some college” for both parents, Common App members will understand that you are a first-generation student.

Ah okay  thanks again winstonwolfe!!
