Hello - I just saw this posted on my FB feed today. Then I found the official release from UChicago, see below:

I did not realize that UC had a special program for Chicago Public School kids. Rolling admissions, and a decision within 2 weeks. Furthermore, the MoveUP program gives application advice to students. Sounds like a great way to increase enrollment and retention of low income and minority students.
Does anyone know more about this program? How many students per year do they accept via this program?

Record breaking 1,948 students enrolled for class of 2024!! Wow. Wonder what that means for this year’s admission
No change according to Dean Nondorf in numerous webinar I have attended. That is the foremost question by many parents and students. Yet Dean Nondorf emphatically states there will the same number of space for Class of 2025. If everything is back to 80% normal by next fall, just the presence of a 100% filled WRC will be able to take care of the extra 160 students from Class of 2024.
@sgopal2 - yes, at the time UChicago launched their national Empower Initiative over two years ago, they mentioned that they had been basically doing the same thing at the local level for about 10 years with programs such as UChicago Promise. So it’s been around for awhile. My understanding is that Nondorf has been on board and even initiating the earlier outreach with application advising for low SES and first gen students who wouldn’t normally have access to those resources. So it’s not surprising to see this rolled out as a new initiative via Move Up. It’s a great way to help these kids overcome the normal information barriers, but in the current Covid environment this sort of outreach is crucial. I’d hope that all universities are doing something similar. Covid and accompanying lockdowns have really slammed the more marginalized and under-represented communities.
Could it also be sending the message to all these lower SES kids who will definitely need financial assistance that applying ED will put them at no disadvantage in that department? Incidentally, I believe they also showcased an inner-city Chicago kid admitted under this program last year - similar ballyhoo, with a surprise party featuring parents of the lucky kid, UChicago paraphernalia and admissions people - and those all-important reporters and cameras.
A soldier now in Kuwait is admitted and Dean Nondorf delivers the news himself.

P.S. I didn’t know until now Dean Boyer was a former US Army Captain .
