First Post! Chance at Wharton ED?

Hey guys, I’ve been browsing the forums for a while, but I finally mustered the courage to actually post. Like the title says, I’m interested in applying to Wharton ED even though I’m pretty convinced I won’t get in. info -

Essays:
Address leadership role in drumline - strong essay I feel

Recs: should be great - from experienced teachers that love me and a counselor I’ve known for a while

Other Info: Very prestigious southern CA public school. First gen. American and my parents did not go to college. My sis goes to UCLA

Very thankful in saying we do not need financial aid as my parents make good money (immigrant success story, basically)

Overall: I think the fact that my junior grades dipped a lot and that I don’t have too many ECs will kill me. My scores are great though, but my UW gpa isnt so hot (so I look like a slacker). Truth is I suffered from a burnout that led to pretty bad physical problems junior year (which I will address in the essay.) Be critical, like i said, I don’t think I have a great chance but it’s worth a shot.

haveacigar, you have no reason to think you can't get in. Your weighted GPA is fine, and I'm guessing your unweighted GPA is at least a 3.7. If so, you're in the ballpark as far as GPA goes.

Your SAT's are good, and those 5's on AP's also show that you are able to handle college level work. I guess you could have a few more EC's, but I think this applies to everyone.

Make sure your essay not only explains what happened with your grades, but shows your potential to overcome things and do better. Focus on what you gained from the experince, rather than how hard it was. You don't want the essay to be an excuse, but an indicator of growth and potential.

Overall, you're a good candidate, and the fact that you don't need financial aid and that you are applying ED will help you out.

Good luck in the fall! I'm 99.99% sure I'm applying to U Penn's college ED, so we're in the same boat (kind of):)

if the Bs were in the AP courses that you got 5s on I think you'll be fine.

That's 3 drummers!!!! (Me, drummerboy88, and you). Wow haha. I wonder what the percent admittance of drummers is at Penn lol.

it must be 100%

raises hand <-- drummer

are you freakin serious?

Ok that's it. We are making a Drummer Clan and we are going to pound our way into Penn..

I call president/G-D

I thought that was fitting for my 100th post.

haha awesome! you guys do drumline stuff or just set?

What's your class rank?

like 10/550
