<h2>Oh hey everyone:) So this is my first attempt at an SAT essay and I'm not entirely sure how I'll score in comparison to the rubric. I would highly appreciate if you all could grade my essay...It's not too great but I'm just trying to get a feel for what I need to do to improve! Direct writing, no revisions. The prompt is: "Idealistic people, people who pursue great ideas in hopes of changing the world, often have ambitious plans that are difficult or even impossible to carry out. These people can claim few solid accomplishments. In contrast, practical people concentrate on workable ideas and goals, even though these may not meet an idealist's high standards. Their approach is likely to be more valuable than the approach of idealistic people. Is an idealistic approach less valuable than a practical approach?"</h2>
<p>It has commonly been said, "Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you'll land among the stars." This proverb exemplifies the beauty of idealism despite the criticism concerning its impractical nature. Idealist beliefs and aspirations are the basis to practicality and without these ceiling-less hopes, many innovations to the social, economic and political world would remain stagnant, leaving outmoded and obsolete ideas in its place. When he first appeared as a Civil Rights activist, Martin Luther King Jr. would come to be reproached for his romanticized view of a nation of racial acceptance, however, by remaining undaunted about his task MLK came to be an inspirations to all those fighting for civil equality. Steve Jobs is another strong example the idealist; by introducing, Apple, a company he started in his own home. Jobss innovative thinking was not hampered by what was believed to be sensible in technological beliefs of the time. By setting high goals, Jobs introduced new technology that has yet find strong competition. Moreover, in a local town, a young six year old child attempted a bold goal to obtain more than 10,000 cans to give to a local charity. Fighting relentlessly, her passion and unrealistic, yet idealistic goal, inspired thousands of individuals nationwide to join together in the fight against hunger, proving that idealism is far from invaluable and is instead the basis to everyday innovations and practicality.
Martin Luther King Jr. today is a common household name. His activism for civil rights was often subjugated to harsh scrutiny for its unrealistic approach to the growing problem of racial discrimination. His idealistic views seemed farfetched for the time but through his passionate speeches, including his famous I Have a Dream speech, King brought together a divided group of African Americans striving for a single commonality: the desire for equality. Not only did Kings idealism bring civil rights movement as more and more activists began to emerge from his footsteps. It was this idealism that came to motivate the correction of the American human rights system and further expand equality to all races.
Through the actions of Steve Jobs, one can furthermore see the importance of ambitious dreams for a brighter future. Steve Jobs, like King, is also a common, everyday name. Jobs is known for his company Apple Inc. Apple, the creators of the Ipod, Iphone, and Itunes, has become the powerhouse of the technological world and an idol for companies in the technological market to look up to with envy. Their grand and massive achievement to the technological world would not have been possible if Jobs had simply stuck to what seemed to be practical, what everyone else was doing. It was Jobss impracticality; his anomaly company that made Apple into the success and inspiration it is today, proving that idealism is in fact valuable.
Locally a young girl about the age of six decided to take on an ambitious goal to collect more than 10,000 cans from her local community by Christmas, a mere two months away. Though her idealist goal may have fallen short, she inspired countless individuals to come together for the fight against the growing hunger problem in America. Not only did she reach her goal but also, she managed to exceed it through the work of hands besides her own. Through her big hopes for the future, she proved idealism is not worthless but is instead important for raising awareness and promoting activism.</p>
