Is an idealistic approach less valuable than a practical approach?

Idealistic approaches have high standards but yield great results and thus have good value. Although the ideas and goals of an idealistic person may seem unreachable, through hard work and persistence they become achievable. This is clear in Steve Jobs, Kobe Bryant and a novel “Flint and steel”.
Steve Jobs' realized idealistic goal is the now infamous monolith, Apple. When people look at Steve Jobs they often label him as a genius and take for granted his ability to conjure the most fabulous inventions. When Steve Jobs dropped out of college, he stopped going to all but one of the classes. He visualized himself at the center of the electronics market in the future. Thus, the only class he went to was a class about electronics. There may only be a couple of people, out of the billions in the world, to reach the epitome of any field, yet, Steve Jobs, with his idealistic goals, achieved what he set out to do.
Kobe Bryant is arguably the best player in the history of the Nba, alongside his idol, another Nba great, Michael Jordan. From a young age Kobe strove to mimic his idol Michael Jordan. He recalls to have sat on the couple with a bowl of popcorn, turning on the T.V., to watch Michael Jordan in action. To become the best at basketball is a far away goal, one that requires extreme mastery of all aspects of the game, physical strength, clutch shooting and basketball intelligence. Kobe Bryant set his sights on Michael Jordan from a young age, his goal has never wavered and he is only 675 points from overtaking Michael Jordan as third place on the overall scoring list.
Flint and steel depicts the story of a young man, who through a long enduring 40 years, discovers a metal called “Blaze”. Jonathan is introduced to the art of blacksmithing at the age of 18 and had since been fascinated with it. After reminiscing about childhood tales in which fabled swords, made from indestructible material, were wielded by heroes to defeat evil, Jonathan steels his heart to achieve such a goal. He ploughs through an arduous 40 years, merging and testing material after material until he finally uncovers the secret to an indestructible material, which he names “Blase”. His idealistic goal of creating an indestructible material is realized.
As shown through Steve Jobs, Kobe Bryant and the novel “Flint and steel” it is, indeed, clear that idealistic goals, despite seeming unrealistic, have great value. Without idealistic goals, the world would have advanced a lot less than it has.
