first semester grades

I currently am an engineering major and just finished my first semester at rutgers. My first semester did not go as well as i would have liked. I pulled of a 3.5 gpa, but i had a c+ in chem. how will that look on med school applications. Will a bad first semester in chem come back to haunt me? I had an A in math and physics. Also i had to take general chem for engineers, which is a lot harder then the regular general chem. I just want to know what i can do to improve my chances of gettin accepted. I would like to go to umdnj in newark or new brunswick. Also when should I start studying for the mcats. Please anyone help me with some advice. Thank You

P.S. Also we do not have minus in grading. We have A, B+, B, C+, C, D, F

That C+ may hurt you because medical school look at chemistry as one of the, if not the, most important subject you take in undergrad. You GPA is fine. If you get a B or better yet, an A, next marking period I'm sure the C+ won't look bad at all. Don't sweat it. I know a kid who got into UMDNJ with C's in Calculus, and he went to Rutgers-New Brunswick.

Start studying for the MCATs in your sophmore year or late in your freshman year. Remember, freshman year is important for setting a pace and getting down to business. It's better if you focus on your studies rather than the MCATs.

Just improve in Chemistry and you'll be good.
