I was planning on applying for a transfer to Rutgers after my Freshman year at NC State. I was looking through the college requirements and saw the following: Students must complete the equivalent to our first-year courses: 2 semesters of calculus, 1 semester of calculus-based physics, and 2 semesters of chemistry (for the Electrical & Computer Engineering major, only 1 semester of chemistry is required). An Associate Degree from a two-year college is NOT required for transfer.
At NC State, at the time of applying, I will have finished one Calculus class, Chemistry. And my Physics and other Calculus will be finished in my second semester. Would there be a way to still be possibly accepted for the Fall 2018 school year, or would I have to wait until all of those classes were finished and apply Spring 2019? Thank you.
It’s possible to transfer. If you were accepted to Rutgers last year, assuming you keep your grades up at NC State, it’s very possible you’ll get accepted again.
What’s wrong with NC State?
@TransferStalker Just wasn’t what I thought it would be. I believe Rutgers NB is a similar education at a very closer place since I am from Jersey.
Keep in mind, you may not get the same financial aid package you got when you got accepted the first time around.
@TransferStalker Does anything differ about apply for a transfer after a first semester? Like is there an emphasis on high school more than usual?
No, the way your stuff is looked at is pretty much the same. If you only have one semester (~15 credits) you’re pretty much a high school applicant. The only reason you’d get rejected the second time around is if your college GPA takes a serious nosedive.
Have you thought of withdrawing from NC State, waiting until Rutger’s freshman application reopens, and reapplying?
@TransferStalker I already started my semester and paid my semester tuition. I can put up with it here, but I think the programs at both NC State and Rutgers are very similar.
Ah, okay. As I said, you can totally apply after your first semester. If you do this, you’ll be applying for the Spring semester at Rutgers NB.
While you may dislike NC State, do NOT let it reflect on your grades. In the brief time you may be at NC State, work hard.
@TransferStalker I was just on the phone with Rutgers, there are required classes in order to transfer that I will not be taking until my second semester, they said that they can hold the application until those grades come in, in May, and then admit or deny me for the Fall 2018 semester. I am still confused though, because it states you must respond to your offer of admission by May 1, and my grades will not be in by then.
If they’re willing to hold your application, then I suppose that May 1st deadline does not apply to you. HOWEVER, I recommend you call right back and ask about this discrepancy.
Contact the school and ask.
@TransferStalker Thank you very much for your help. If you don’t mind, you will be the first person I contact with any other questions.
@KingsHat Of course! Do not hesitate to privately message me for further questions. Best of luck!
