First time being chanced! Brown, Vanderbilt, Georgetown

<p>I'm kind of concerned about weak ECs. I'm not really sure how mine stack up, so any guidance on that would be appreciated. Okay, here goes nothing! ~deep breath~</p>

<p>ACT: 34
E: 35
M:32
R: 36
S: 31 (Ewwww.)
My writing was only an 8/12, and I'm really concerned that that will reflect poorly on my app. Writing is actually one of my strongest suits, and I hope my app essays will not be "8" worthy. </p>

<p>I haven't taken the SAT, but I made a 210 on my PSAT. The NMFinalist qualifying scores for the last three years in my state have been below this, so hopefully I'll qualify. </p>

<p>GPA: 4.0
All of my classes have been some sort of honors/gifted except Health, World Geography, and electives. I'll be enrolled in AP Western Civilization, AP Calculus, and AP English at the time of application. I'll also be taking courses at my local college, which will hopefully make up for the lack of AP courses my school offers.</p>

<p>My school does not select valedictorian, but I am ranked #1 in my class. </p>

<p>ECs
Six years playing Alto sax, also some time playing Tenor and Baritone Sax.
Performed in over 35 dramatic productions, numerous leads in both musicals and regular scripts.
Chess Club
JCL (Junior Classical League, a Latin/Greek club)
LYAC (Legislative Youth Advisory Council, a group of fifteen students throughout the state that advises the state legislature on issues facing today's youth.)
Intern at local youth theatre, assisting with drama camps for six summers. </p>

<p>I'm not first generation college attending, nor do I have a legacy at an any of these schools. I'm a caucasian female from a middle class family. Nothing exciting.

<p>GPA is solid (what is your weighted GPA?), ACT score is very good, EC’s aren’t that bad since I get the feeling you have a passion for the dramatic arts (Internship, Performances, etc.) Though I get the feeling you aren’t passionate about the other EC’s listed (i.e. chess). No USCF rating, publications, probably no knowledge of anyone in professional chess (Leko, Carlsen, Anand, Aronian, etc) or the game itself (forks, skewers, Lucena position, etc)</p>

<p>Don’t worry about that though, there’s no way any adcom would be as harsh as I would towards EC’s concerning chess.</p>

<p>My guess is you’ll at least get into some top 50 schools, a few top 20 and hopefully one Ivy.</p>

<p>You look pretty good but you will definitely need some better ECs since you have no legacy, nor minority status, and you are not first generation college. </p>

<p>Right now these schools are reaches but you can make it. Good luck!</p>

<p>This is just, speculation, though. It might be too late to get involved with too many EC’s, but you should make a serious effort.</p>

<p>Don’t worry about the ACT essay… they do not at all reflect your writing ability and everyone knows that.</p>

<p>The ec’s are a bit weak but good, excellent GPA, excellent Test Scores, would recommend to retake it though and get it even higher on the ACT</p>
