First Writing Requirement

I barely didn't test out of the first writing requirement for the College, and because of my SSN I've been told I must fulfill it my first semester. The problem is, all of the ENWR 210 classes are filled up, with no waitlist available for those classes. If I'm interested in applying for Echols after my first year, (and they're looking for a rigorous course load), would it appear lazy if I only took an ENWR 110 class? Especially since my major IS going to be English...

My best advice is sign up for ENWR 110 so you're not totally screwed, and either stalk ISIS or force action into a ENWR 210 class (better option for Echols/english majors I would bet).

You could also try looking into classes outside the ENWR dept that satisfy the FWR.

I think Echols looks for a high GPA, but either way you're going to have to take ENWR210, right? Just get it over with in your first year. Don't worry about the SSN because I did mine in the other semester instead of enrolling during the semester I was supposed to, as was determined by my SSN. A good rule of thumb is to start at the course which is suggested by the university.

Most successful Echolds candidates usually have highly competitive GPAs at around 3.8, I'd say. But the person to talk to is Richard Handler who handles echols students. He's a nice, funny guy :)

How does one go about force actioning into an ENWR 210 class? And how would I find classes that fulfill the first writing requirement outside of the ENWR classes? Although now that I know I can just wait and take it my second semester, I probably will do that if something doesn't open up on ISIS. In the meantime, would it be ok to take a class that fulfills the 2nd writing requirement before I fulfil the 1st?

ONly the ENWR classes fulfill the first writing requirement. It's allowed to fulfill the 2nd writing req before the first, but not advisable. And there's a course action form where you let your professor sign so you can take the course even if it is full.

So after doing my own course searching on COD, there's classes outside ENWR that fullfill the second writing req, not the first. So, maybe you could try to take one of those classes first, then go on, but that might be a bit tricky because most of those people will have already fullfilled the first req.
And course action forms are online, you fill it out, and show up at the first class and the professor either adds you or not.

you can only take 110 or 210, you don't get to choose which one you take, it's whichever one you tested into. if you're really concerned email your advisor or dean or something and they'll give you some good advice about what to do.

would you advise emailing the actual professor of the class I want to take? There is one ENWR 210 class I'm particularly interested in taking and I know it fits into my schedule already. I have a course action form, and plan on doing that the first week of school, but again, should I email the professor as well?

well a lot of people are going to be trying to switch into a different enwr class so the prof might not be the most into it, but you can try if you want.

You could always do a portfolio review to get an exemption.
