Do any of you guys know where you want to live next year? I checked out the application to live in Brown College, and some of the questions are harder than my college application questions!

Which rooms are better, McCormick or Aldermann? I lived in a really crappy dorm when I went to summer program two years ago (leaky pipes, bad smells, motel 6 appearence), and I want to avoid that COMPLETELY!

Brown College is for the more artsy types, that's why the application is ...like it is

one thing to consider is whether you want the suites or hall-style dorms. my brother lived in dunglison last year and is an RA at fitzhugh this year (both aldermann rd) and he hasn't had any problems like that

tenniscraze~ Brown's deadline for incoming students if May 31st; if you're thinking about doing it, I would say go for it. It's close to class and there are a lot of fun people there. Everyone I know that is living/lived in Brown loved it. It really is a community that grows together up there on Monroe Hill.

Plus, the application itself is a lot of fun

you have to pack everything up at the end of spring semester. There are storage places in C-ville & a lot of people leave stuff there over the summers. The ads and fliers around campus right now even advertise places that will pick up your stuff and then deliver it to your room before fall classes start -- which is an awesome plan if you are going to live in dorms from year to year and don't want to take everything back home and then move it back in.

During holidays you can leave stuff. 1st year dorms are closed during winter break and are locked up, but upperclassman dorms stay open during intersession.

Upperclassmen have the option of keeping their same dorm from year to year (though you still have to move out over summer) if you live on grounds.

Can someone who lives in Alderman Road Residence Area or knows the place tell me what life is like there? What is the dorm itself like? Very social? Not social? I believe on the UVA website it says some are suites and some are not. How big is the price difference? Also, how is the location of it? Is it close to classes or on very outskirts of campus? Thanks!

I've a question here. What do we absolutely have to bring with us when we move into our dorms. I know for certain that we'd have to bring extra-long sheets. But what about other items, like pillows and comforters or blankets?

I was just there visiting during Days on the Lawn/Spring Fling and I stayed over night. I stayed in Cauthen, off of Alderman, known as the "new dorms". The dorms in Cauthen are really nice! Huge and air conditioned...I'm going for Cauthen!

What do the bathrooms in the Alderman apartment dorms look like? Are they just like a regular bathroom with a shower, sink, toilet bowl (and a bath?)? Or is more like a communal toilet with multiple shower cubicles, multiple sinks ...etc. It seems kinda unreasonable to expect 10 people to share 1 regular toilet.

is alderman coed? and if so, by floors? or on same floor? i was lookin through uva housing site and didn't see anything on the gender of the dorms.
