This is my first year but im transferring in 54 credits, so technically im a soph. Do I still need to take FYE ? My advisor kind of bullied me into registering. What happens if I drop it ?

mitch…When you say you’re transferring in 54 credits, are you actually a transfer student or do you have 54 credits worth of AP? If it’s AP courses, you may have sophomore status but you’re still an incoming freshman. If you’re considered a transfer student that may be a different case.

Are you referring to the Freshman Seminars when you say FYE? I’m assuming you’re not talking about Orientation, since that’s required for all incoming freshman. If it’s the Seminars you’re referring to, there seems to be quite a few of them available for the upcoming year so I would think you’d be able to find something among them that would interest you. FWIW…our D1 (rising senior at UMinn <:-P ) enrolled with a plan to eventually become a Pharmacist. She took a Freshman Seminar in Genomics, fell in love with genetics, and will be applying to grad school programs this winter for Genetic Counseling. Don’t look at it as some sort of punishment, look at it as a possible opportunity. You never know where it might lead!! Go Gophers!!

Im not a transfer student. I have 54 credits from college now and PSEO.

No, im not referrign to freshman seminar just the 1 credit FYE class.

I get why those classes are there but im trying to get my degree in 2 years and every bit counts. I have decided my major and ive been attending college for 2 years now. What benefit does this have fore me ?

Did you ask your adviser why you had to take it? Is it required for your major? If it isn’t required, I would assume you can drop it. Why don’t you call up and ask?

Although my son had college credits, he wasn’t recognized as a sophomore until Spring semester. The FYE class was required for CSE students.
